BOV question
out of curiosity, which is the blow off valve that stutters when it releases air.. kind of like "tss-tss-tss-tsssst" really fast and does anyone have a sound clip...i plan on boosting early next year and would like this BOV
naw thats not the hks ssqv...tahts more like a chirp...i know the HKS racing bov makes that noise, but it's for high boost...and costs like 300-400 bucks. there are other japanese bovs that make those funky noises tho not sure which ones.
You can make ALMOST any bov stutter its all about getting the car just barely in to boost and rolling out of the throttle. "cccccsssssssss...tss-tss-tss-tsssst"
Just get your car boosted, then you will figure out how to get it to make all sorts of cool noises.

Yea, personally I hate that sound cuz it just gets annoying but simply running to light of a BOV spring can cause that sometimes... Normally the Turbo XS RFL just does a really load dump but with no washers and higher boost, you get that sound... The Greddy Type R/S both kinda just make that sound all the time... Just my $0.02, peace

my friend has the HKS SSQ BOV and he just has the spring tight and it makes that exact noise, it sounds kinda cool

the functionality is important but the sound is equally important because it is a sound that you have to live with it for a long time.
Contrary to what some people say about the HKS SSQ BOV it is actually a very good BOV the way that it functions makes it literally impossible for it to leak, my friend runs his at 27 psi and it has never leaked. IMO get the HKS it sounds good and it functions very well. just my .02

How about this: you buy your parts based on a combination of how they sound and how well they work, and someone else can buy theirs based solely on how well the work. Then we'll have a race and see who wins. You are going to get owned.
And, if you care about buying parts based on how they sound, then why not buy them based on how they look too? I mean, you want them to look good, you have to live with them for a long time.....

Yes, the SSQBOV works decently well.
However, my stock 1g DSM BOV (~$40) is pressure tested to 30 psi, never leaks at the track at 24 psi, and "sounds good."
As long as it's not the sissy sneeze of the Greddy Type-S, most BOV's will sound fine.

#1I really do not think when it comes to racing someones choice in a BOV is going to get them pwned.
#2 homeboy is right about sound and function. The BOV does 2 things, release boost and makes a noise. If you didnt by a BOV for both sound and function then you would get the silent release BOV, but you don't because you want to hear the PSssshh chhhhhh, so sound IS important if you are buying one that makes a noise because you do have to live with it. This is no different then buying a exhaust with a certain kind of sound over another, I don't here anyone razzin people searching for exhausts because they look for tone and performance.

It certainly depends on the BOV and the cars. A huge boost leak guarantees bad performance.
Also, you'll notice that I wasn't just talking about BOV's just parts in general.

Where do you buy this silent release BOV? I've never seen it.
Second of all, if you spend extra money on one that is silent, that is STILL CARING ABOUT NOISE! You chosing that BOV particularily for the sound it makes, or the lack of sound.
I have a 3 inch exhaust on my car, because it flows well.
On the other hand, I did buy a second straight-through muffler for the exhaust, but that is a different topic entirely. That has no effect at all on the performance of the exhaust, and simply keeps me from getting a headache while driving home from school, and keeps the cops off my back.
Here's a good deal for you: Find someone that runs a shop that builds race cars, and ask them if THEY would choose a BOV based on sound and performance, or just performance.

If i was building a race car, performance, if i was putting work into my daily driver,
sound and performance, I don't care what a shop says, they don't drive my car 247.
Don't kid yourself in thinking you can't get a performance oriented BOV that sounds good. Not to mention BOV are not the make or break end of a turbo system.
Also you can do a search on the net for Silent BOV, they may not have a label ***** HKS or Greddy on them, but their functions are the same.
