Default Boosting a y7?

Hey guys, I've got a D16y7 with 90k on it. All I want is some boostin for daily driving haha. That's all I want, wanna run on around 5-7psi of boost. That's about it, not much. With that much, I want to stay reliable as well.

I've been debating around on doing this..try sourcing out a D16y8 and clean it up some. Replace the internals with some beefier counterparts, it'll take time but oh well, and then boost it with a Edelbrock turbo kit.

OR...

Put a y8 manifold on my y7 and boost it. Unless there are CARB legal turbo kits for y7's? I've never found any..or heard of any for that matter. But you know what, if there is a y7 turbo kit, feel free to show it to me. I think I'll run it. Yes, I live in Cali. Cops don't hassle unless you drive like an *** and all, so I'm not worried much about being pulled over.

So basically, I just want boost for some zip in my daily driver. Nothing crazy.

Thanks.

if you are looking at using an edelbrock kit, it comes with a manifold so a stock y8 mani. would not be needed

93 octane isn't available in Orange County. Or So Cal for that matter. Correct me if I am wrong.

So the question is, can I run the Greddy turbo kit that was made for the y8 on my y7? All I have to do is tune the blue box right?

It will be bolt on if you change your intake manifold to a Y8 one...

Throw a y8 manifold on it, and like fjt said any d series kit will bolt right up.

I had a lot of fun with my turbo y7

Awesome.

From advice via PM's..

I'm going to get a compression test to see if the motor is healthy or not. Then if it's all gravy, hello boost.
