Default Boosted D16. Worth it or Not?

My friend is thinking about buying this '97 Civic Ex. I THINK the motor is a D16, with 125 hp. He loves boost. Would boosting the stock motor worth it? What kind of numbers would be expected if he did boost it? thanks

Is it worth it?... only your friend can answer that question.. we are all bias.. we can only say what we feel/think you should do ..

what are the power goals? is it a street car? daily driver?

i vote boost the D .. just learn what your doing.. do the research its all here .. buy quality parts.. and piece together a kit..

Boost it first at least! Wont cost him much, if he wants a B still, then he can go for that. no loss.

The RSX cannot be modded because warrenty. Thats why he getting another car. no psi are specific right now. turbo most like be a t3/t4 garrett. i think.

The D16 boosted will outperform any/most swaps done in a typical Honda/Acura. Cost would come out to be about the same also. Depending on who you know and what parts you have, can find for what price.

I love both.

D16 + turbo is a great inexpensive way to cut your teeth.

but i would go hoping for HUGE #s with a turbo D. if you want to go big, might as well start with a better base

<-------- Boosted 89si hatch
Stock D16a6 motor
Skunk2 intake mani
6puck unsprung clutch
Act prolite flywheel
Custom kit with SSAutoshit manifold and Garret 42/48 t3, 2.5" dp and 2.25" exhaust
13.81@ 7psi and consistent 13's in that area, street tires, no 60fts under 2.3secs
Untuned, running on gangsta rich turboedit basemap
Worth it? I'd say hell yea, D's are cheap if they blow up, and its fun to smoke people with a singlecam. Spent less than a grand on the setup b4 i decided to upgrade to a fmic and better charge piping, never got to run her after that though

if the D is in good shape and is a D worthing boost ( Aka : D15B, D16z6, D16Y8, D16a6 ) then go for it all the way !

you'll make more horse than any motor swap for a fraction of the price of the swap.
Heck, even if you plant a H22 in there, for half the price you'll endup faster with the boosted D.

my 0,02 $

considering that the dollar/performance value of a
boosted sohc really does beat any other setup out there.. "worth it" ???

i'm more curious if it's even worth ASKING if it's worth it.

of course it is!
