Don't forget, there are 12second NA Type-Rs in the forum..not that NA is necessarily more reliable, but you might be able to make the amount of power you want naturally aspirated

blah - i have seen my share of grenaded NA motors as well - it all comes down to tuning -- get it tuned = get reliability...

i think you will be fine at low boost say 5-6lbs.. i have been asking around for a while now about R's and turbo's and should be ok at boost.. plus you should see some very noticable gains.. if i had the money i'd do it tomorrow morning.. but i'm already neck deep in debt for misc exterior mods.. that until i pay that off everything else is on hold.. ohh well cant have it all at once.

either way is good. na or turbo.

i've just seen too many good drivers and na type r's due high 13's with bolt-ons and minor head work to discount it.

You're going to want to lower your compression on that motor. High compression is a big reason why turbocharged motors blow.

That's just my two cents.

I have a DRAG 3 kit on mine. I say go for it but don't turn up the boost past 7 lbs. Your compression ratio is fine for this amount of boost. If it makes you nervous, buy a thicker headgasket to drop your comp. ratio a point or so and then you will be even safer. Just retard your timing or get a standalone to manage it. Just make sure you have enough fuel!

really? how long have you been boosting? and does the greddy kit fit the R motor?

if i do go turbo.... it would be custom made.... buying misc parts here and there.... to make things a lil cheaper... i just need to know how much the standalone unit costs... i'm very sure that i won't go beyond 6 pounds...

Ive been boosting it on the ITR motor for about a week and a half/two weeks now. B4 i put it on the ITR motor, it was on a GSR motor...
The Greddy Kit fit the ITR, its just that the intercooler piping had to be modified at the Intake Manifold due to the difference b/w the GSR and ITR.

Hell yeah boost the R. My buddy just put a Drag Turbo Kit on his 00' and the mother ****** is ballistic. To be on the safe side though, being that you are turbo on an ITR, is to go with a stand alone fuel management setup. They are all pretty close as for which system is better, but I personally reccomend Hondata, it seems to be the best out right now. Keep the boost low, or get yourself a head gasket and turn up the pressure. Once you have it running perfect, there will be not to much out on the streets that will keep up with you....

The most common Hondata system, or so I was told, is the Stage 2. It goes for about $700, then you need to buy a computer that is Windows 95 compatible or higher. When you are all said and done after buying and tuning, the stand alone system should take a few bucks out of your pocket. Around $2000 of them.

It was on the GSR for 3 months...
I got rid of the GSR motor cuz although the low end and mid range power was good with the greddy kit; the top end really sucked *****.

so i had a choice of either buying CTR cams and putting them in my GSR for $800 CAN, or trading in my GSR motor for an ITR motor for $1000 CAN, so I went with the ITR...
I notice a HUGGGEE difference in top end power now...its incredible

spooncivic.... GSR motor plus 1000 can gets you an ITR motor??!?! wow... anyway.... no problems with it at all?

No, you got me wrong. The Hondata system is not $2000.00 by itself. The price I said includes a head gasket, installation of everything and then mass dyno tuning for the Hondata System and the Cams. Bro, honestly if you are not looking to drop mad bills on your car, don't go turbo. Think about it, you are turboing a type r, which is already a dope *** car that has like top of the line everything so why settle for less then the best. If I were you I would wait until you have enough $$ for the best ****.

My $0.02
