Default To Boost, or not to Boost, that is the question.

I've got an 89 civic si, newly rebuilt stock motor, and I'll be putting on a T-25 with a star/quest intercooler, vortech FMU etc... soon, but for now there is no turbo installed, it's all stock.

I'll be driving from Maine to Oregon in a few weeks, and then at the end of the summer back from oregon. So, the plan was to drive out there, then install the turbo this summer, and drive back with the turbo, but I"m afraid that it won't be reliable for the drive back, which could really screw me over.

[What should I do??]

Better not go for a long road trip as soon as you get your turbo on. There are lots of things that need to be ironed out. No kit is directly bolt on...I'm sure you know that.

I'm sure most people here with turbos haven't had it running perfect even in a month after getting it on.

I say do it after you get home.

EDIT: Oh yeah...and smoke week everyday.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not gonna put it on till I get out there for sure, then I'll have like 3 months to tune it before I would have to drive back to Maine. Still, I don't know what to do. And I'll be sure to smoke weed everyday. (I put that option in)

Heh, nice. Well, if you have 3 months, and you feel up to it, I say go for it.

Mine's been running okay for a while....it still has to be tuned so I'm not taking it hard. Two days ago I saw coolant leaks on my garage floor.

if your engine is in good running condition now and someone knowledgeable installs the turbo, you should be fine. the answer is boost your car.

Yeah, my parents live in Maine. I'm living in Norther NY now, going to school (Senior at Clarkson U.) I don't really know where I'll be living after this.

YEah, I'm worried about the turbo and distance. Really sucks because I just finished getting all my parts together, then I decide to spend the summer out west...

Hey man, do you live in maine?
I dont think anything would be worse then having your new oil return line come loose, and start leaking right around new hampshire, and then to continue driving.
Its pretty hard to spot leaks, if you rarely stop driving.

very good point, for example yesterday the oil fitting on back of my block was loose and i was leaking oil pretty bad, bad enough that after i while of driving i would be doomed. DOnt risk messing something up just to boost on the way home. Anyways like most poeple on here the car is not running perfect right after install.

better safe than sorry

Tis not a question to boost or not to boost, but how much boost to run...
