Default boost dies at 5k?

ok, well i am running old greddy kit, with the black box (looking into missing link right now) no ic and a vortech fmu all on obd-1 converted crx with d16z6(p28). i don't think i have the green wire hooked up right, supposed to go to the IAT and ECT sensors. wheni get on it, it felt like it was spooling around 3ish, but then after 5k it seemed to only pull as much as it did all motor? wtf is the problem here.

also if i buy the missing link, how does it hook up, and don't i have to have a boost controller to run it. i cannot afford all that right now.please help me out. thanks

where is your wastegate line hooked up? hook the wastegate vacuum line up to the intake mani on a vacuum source and it should hold boost til redline.

are you still boosting after 5K or does the boost just fade away? because I boost 5 psi up until redline but my powerband kind of falls away around 5300 rpm. i start spooling at around 2500 rpm with full boost probably around 4800-5000 rpm. the 15G is notorious for its lack of top-end. maybe that's what you're experiencing or something.

to cure your problem, all you need to do (if funds allow) is up the boost. i made the measly jump from 5 to 7psi, and the top end is a big difference from 5psi. i would think 8-10 would obviously be even better, but i dont have the ***** to do that on a stock block untuned right now .

yeah yeah. i know i need to up the boost. 5 psi just ain't cutting it anymore. I think i'm going to get a Hallman MBC and go up to 7. was it like a world of difference going from 5 to 7 or was it just slightly noticeable?

Are you sure it's the boost that's actually cutting out? Sometimes, the kick of boost is pretty powerful and when the wastegate opens at your desired boost level and it plateaus, then it feels like it's losing power, when in actuality it's still 5psi and the kick is just gone.

I don't know if I explained that clearly....but just check to make sure that's not it.

ok well. i haven't been running any gauges at all. only been bossted for two days. just got the stupid black box wired the way it is supposed to be. and i just bought a boost gauge tonight for like $40. just a temorary deal, then i'll sell it and buy one more attractive. right now ust a plain black VDO that has red needle, and lights up white.not too bad looking, just doesn't match the silver tach too well....and well, it is gana look stupid having boost that goes 0-30, and only move 5 or 6.

you exlained it pretty well, mine does the same thing, it hits 5psi and feels like it slowed down on accelerating because boost stopped rising......
