well you need a manifold that has a flang for an external wg.

Couldnt I just have an external w/g flange welded on, and weld up the flapper?

Correct. DSM guys do it alot and it works..

WEld the flapper door shut and have a wastegate mounted on the manifold somewhere.

Instead of welding the flapper I make a rigid 'actuator' that holds it shut. That way you can still use the internal gate on another setup or if you sell it just bolt the actuator back on. That aside, the question asked is ridiculous since there is no one best way since every setup and owner is different. Read instead of post.

on my first setup, i had a t03 from a 89' 300zx. i bought a revhard manifold with an external wg flange. i removed the internal wg, and just had the flange of my dp block the flapper. the original dp it came with had a hole for the flapper. the turbo had a 5 bolt pattern for the dp so my welder made my dp so that there would be no hole for the internal wg. it blocked the flapper. worked fine for me.

It dosnt make sence to me, why people weld up the flapper and such. Wouldnt it be easiest to just remove the air line to the internal wastegate and block the end coming out of the turbo, to stop pressure escaping from the compressor housing?

The way i understand it, is that the positive pressure in this line pushes the wastegate open. If you removed this line from the wastegate, the flapper would be forever held closed by the wastegate itself????
