Another incooler question...a little differnet though!
Hi All,
I have an intercooler that I purchased off someone in the local area therefore I don't know the exact make. I think it is from "johnny racer intercoolers"(not certain) because its 35" long(outlet to outlet), 6" high and 3" thick. Anyway, after mounting just on my car this weekend, I found it to be a little too long. Therefore, I'm thinking of cutting off the inlet connection, which is mounted parrellel & co-liner to the runners and re-mounting it at 90° angle(onto the endtank). In terms of piping and space...this is far superior. However, I'm wondering what impact will this have on performance? The compressed air will sort of be smacking a wall instead of hitting the runners directly. Will this cause more lag?? less lag? I know that there will be a pressure build up in the endtanks reguardless, nevertheless..will this cause too much turbulance?? Will pressure in the endtank will be too much? Any opinion would be appreciated! Hope my explanation wasn't too confusing!peace...

boosted_dc2....thanks for the reply..I did a search on " backdoor"...came up with the "full-race" intercooler that is being sold only..nothing else. The "full-race" intercooler looks awesome. However the endtanks are much larger then the intercooler that I have. Therefore I'm concerned about the effects this modification will have on performance...anyone ..any ideas or opinions?

I am using a similar set-up. I have experienced no ill effects besides turbulance though the core helps heat transfer. I would go for it...packaging the turbo system well is important too. Sometimes you have to make compromises.
Mine: the left nipple is the "moved" inlet, the right is the BOV flange

for some reason..I those threads didn't pop up for me when I did "backdoor" search..anyway..thanks for that....I think I'm going to go with the back door setup...however this prompts another question which has been a subject of debate for a while now...that is ...would it be beneficial to mount the bov closer to intercooler(outlet side still) given that I'm running a backdoor setup?? do u think this would make a difference?

both my endtanks are backdoor style. my endtanks aren't squared off like most, they flow more like a smooth cast piece. saved me over 1.5' in charge piping.....looks better too IMO. short simple and sweet
