Default ... 60-1 compressor mapping

... here is what i have done for compressor mapping of the 60-1... please take a look and let me know if i messed up any calculations... btw, i used the formulas from scc june 03 and the compressor map is from turbonetics... anyways, from my work, it looks like it gets into efficiency at around 8 psi... well, lemme know what you think and if there is anything i need to fix... thanks...

full size version can be found here:

(copy&paste and open in new window if necessary)

blue lines - used only as grids, not mapping specific points
red points - associated with respective pressure ratios (6,8,10,15,20,25psi)

(( btw, ignore the 34 and 100, i was trying to get excel to superimpose a graph onto the compressor map but i couldnt get it to work - if anyone knows how, lemme know, thanks))

*edit* - typos

imagestation won't let you link to the full size image...I tried doing that with some datalogs a while back

Maybe someone here can host it?

I absolutely do not trust the compressor map for the 60-1. At a PR of 2.7 you will be almost completely off the map, but performance of the turbo doesnt reflect this at all.

There is no compressor map for the 60-1, the compressor map that you have is something that was made up...

I have a compressor map for the 60-1 and 62-1 in my Turbonetics catalogue!

The information that there was no real compressor map came from the mouth of an innovative turbo rep at englishtown I spoke too. He worked for turbonetics at one point, so he claims that the compressor map was something made up. As far as the compressor map being accurate you can phsyically tell that it isnt. When i ran the 60-1 compressor you could feel and hear the turbo becoming efficient around 12psi, plot that on the compressor map at 12psi and it is somewhere between 60-65 efficient far from hitting its peak efficiency range between 70-78%. The map is off plot points on the map and you'll see what I mean.

... i'd like (need) to see a real 60-1 compressor map... i just wanna check a couple of things... most importantly, if i am to the left of the surge limit at 8psi (until i get a profec b)... because i dont wanna ruin this turbo... i'd also like to know what my efficiency will be at 10psi (until i get a 3-bar map sensor and up the boost) and 15psi+... if anyone can help me out, i'd really appreciate it... thanks...

From 2002 to 2003 Turbonetics catologue the Flow has changed for the 60-1 from either 60-65 lbs/min to 55 lbs/min! WTF? So that may be a valid point that the compressor map is incorrect, tony1 post the real ish

that map is pretty much meaningless unless you plot the airflow points for all the other rpm ranges the engine will be in boost.

B18B, 3000-7000rpm demand lines:

if you manage to hit anything over 8psi at 4000 rpm, that map says you'll be in compressor surge. based on what that map says, regardless of whether it's the correct map or not, if the turbo spools fast, you'll be surging until you get to about 5500rpm. everyone seems to ignore the lower rpm airflow range and i don't know why, seeing as how this is where you will spend most of your time.

is your engine bored out or something too? by my calculations 1800cc is less than 110CID. you have it listed as 120.xx..

yes, that was leftover from my translation of the equations... it has since been corrected to 109.6601

OMFG! I love you all! (no Im not gay..lol)
I posted twice last year on whyTF are some going with the 60-1, when calculations say you need at least a 2.5 liter to fall in the sweet spot of that map. Where were you guys when I posted!?
In the thread all they said was "dont trust compressor maps at all" ****..
PLEASE!, I really need the map for the 60-1!!.. even Boosted already knows its been a full year since I started trying to find the right turbo size.

PM me

Bump

Edit:
..just found out that a compressor housing will change the map.
Also, a "super" compressor wheel such as the Super T04E-60, is the same map (as the regular T04E-60) but it's offset up^ along the y-axis (+.30 in pressure ratio)

(update)

- new map (courtesy of tony1)
- points plotted for full boost at 5000rpm and 9000rpm
- corrected cid

same as before... lemme know if there is anything i need to fix... thanks...
