Re: 2 stage rev limiter (speedymon)
2step is for more cosistant launches, so you dont have that as a variable anymore when you are drag racing....
it limits the rpm to a pre determined amount then swithes off one you are moving(via a switch or some sort)

Re: 2 stage rev limiter (speedymon)
Actually it's a 2 different rev limiters. I have it on my msd dig 7 ignition. The 1st rev limit is wired to a toggle switch, I can set it to hold me at a certain rpm for a launch. The second is just the cut off rev limit so I won't overrev I just have that set at 8500. But I like how I can launch w/the 1st limit I just sit there building my boost.

Re: 2 stage rev limiter (pornstarSR)
It's working great. It is really simple to use. I know w/the 7 al you have to do all kinds of programming and other stuff for it to work good. But if you upgrade to the dig 7+ you have to get a new 7 series coil. But it's a great ignition. And it's the size of the other 6 series ignitons, not all huge and bulky like the 7al.

newb question about msd ignitions... if i buy a msd 6al, do i need to get the external coil and distributor cap? or anything else? i checked out the msd website and the summitracing.com website and they didnt mention anything else but i always see more then just that box on other peoples' cars.

its better to . if your gonna get one thing , might as well get it all .
granted you dont really get power from the igniton , but your still gonna be held back by your stock coil and **** .
the cap is like30 and the coil is like 30.. just a couple extra bucks no biggie
i cant wait to finish up my installl , everything is done but my 2 step . i didnt gt a swx for it yet

Re: 2 stage rev limiter (sushibug)
well the msd does not like to run on the copper coil wires that are ngk, so you should change over to msd wires.....
as far asn the upgrade is concerned, it all depends on how much power you plan on making

Re: 2 stage rev limiter (itr206)
i used my clutch switch to engadge it, so when its all the way down its on the first revlimit and when its out its on the second....
the way i have it run now is through the same switch but i have a toggle swith running in the circuit so that it can be sweitched off when im course raceing so when i heel toe downshift i dont hit 4000 rpm limit

Re: 2 stage rev limiter (boostedeg6)
the part number for the 2step is
MSD-8739
but you have to figure out where you are going to run the switch off of

I dont think its nessary to upgrade ur ignition if you have numbers under 350 HP. IMO it might just be a waste of money...unless your all out speedracer.

Re: 2 stage rev limiter (boostedeg6)
yeah i have it run on the clutch switch, but the clutch switch is completely disconnected from the ecu, so i can start the car with the clutch out, yes just let yourself get used to it if you want to do it that way......
i knwo teres a way to get it done where you can use it that way, but my cars a race car so its no big deal for me and so far its worked out fine........
its just kind of a paint to crawl under the dash and get to that thing
