Just installed switch for msd digital 6 two step rev limiter let me list the problems
I wired in the swith for the two step rev limiter into the blue wire. I called msd and the tech told me to use the blue wire. I wire it in with a switch and run a power source to the switch from the fuse box. I dont know where in the fuse box cuz my friends dad did that part. Well here is what happened:
1. the car idled at 4500 where i set it but very slowly and backfired profusely, I mean very loud backfires like a gun shot.
2. I tried to make the rev limiter higher to see if it would rev faster but it backfired too hard so i stopped.
3. suddenly the temporary rev limit was on when i let go of the switch and when i would push the switch I could rev, so basically I would have to drive holding a button, very gay.
4. suddenly as i try to drive home holding the switch no longer helps and the rev limit is on wether or not i push the switch. mind you the rev limit is at 3500 rpm and its very annoying.
5. as i start to drive the rev limit goes lower and i cant exceed 2500 rpm at all and when i get to close to it the car start jerking from hitting the rev limit.
6. i get home a try changin the rev limit setting to 0,0, and that didnt work so i tried 9,900 redline to see if I could rev freely.
So im posting now asking what the hell went wrong? I mean the backfiring im guessing is from running too rich, but what is up with that **** changing all on its own?? Can anyone help me out????

What MSD box do you have...6a/6al? and do you ahve the adjustable two step with the dials or do you have the one were you insert the pills?
Also if you had to hold down the button to get rid of the rev limitter did you try reversing the pills? (this is if you have the pill type one)

i just hooked mine up to the clutch pedal. so when the clutch is engaged, then the 2 step is activated.

Use a relay. Use your clutch switch. Solder all connections. If the revlimits are changing, it sounds like some where you have some flakey connections. I would pull the box and wire it yourself making soldered connections, I have a feeling that will fix the whole problem. That poping when 2 stageing is normal, but you should not hear pops when its not holding your rpm.

dude it sounds like you got all kinds of probs.
but the 2step willpop and stuff when activated .
when you hold that in it will only let you reach the rpm you selected on the 2step feature.
when released it will go back to the over rev limiter. so make sure you have everything dialed in right.
if that doesnt work go back and check all your wiring and settings, if you dont have it set to 4cyl it will give you probs also

I forgot to add, SOLDER EVERYTHING, i know you dont like solder connections, but dont use that twist the wires together then use electrical tape method.

I used the butt connectors.
So the popping is normal when the 2step is engaged? I mean this is not just popping its like hard core backfiring that a gun shot. and it messes up the steadyness of the two step.
Also on the digital six its supposed to be on where all 4 cylinders? on the first switch? its a totally different **** then the two step one right?
