Default Wideband install ?

My friend just bought a new LC-1 from this nitrous refill place near us, when he bought it the guy gave him a spacer similar to a spark plug defouler and said that it is good to use it on turbo apps. I thought it was for tricking the o2 into thinking you had a cat right? I never used this when i installed my LC-1. does anyone have any info on this?

sounds like it a heat sink used to protect the sensor if mounted close to the turbo

Thats what i would think, but the manual for the Lm-1 describes jsut making a heat shield for the section of the sensor outside of the pipe.

A heat shield is for the outside of the O2. It is sandwiched between the sensor & bung. Any kind of non-fouler/defouler would not give you acurate readings as it takes the O2 sensor out of the direct exhaust gas stream. That is why people with no cat, high flow cats or test pipes use defoulers on the SHO2S. It pulls the sensor out of the stream causing it to read lower O2 readings as if there was a cat installed.

I had my LC-1 hooked up and running for 6 months in the primary header tube (9" from the head) and never had any problems with it. If your worried about excessive heat range then just move the O2 bung further down in your down pipe. Even 12" from the turbo will get better readings then pulling it out of the stream using a defouler.

is this what you're talking about?

This is the innovative motorsports heat sink (HBX-1). Yes, it takes the sensor out of the exhaust gas flow, but is only necessary for high-temp applications.

I don't have one yet, but I plan on getting one soon.

My sensor frequently shuts down any time I am spooling my turbo for longer than a minute (not even at full boost), so this is my only option to keep the sensor temp down (that I know of). The sensor is as far down the exhaust stream as possible (just before the cat flange).

I would personally rather have a little lower accuracy than no reading at all. Besides, it is made by the same company that designed the wideband kit in the first place. How bad could it be?

I wish my exhaust gas would stay as cool as yours so I don't have to get one of these things. $85! Can you effing believe that?! Sheesh!

Hey, if you don't want yours, why don't you sell it to me???

$85 for that little thing. F#@k that! Probably cheaper to move your O2 bung lower in your exhaust and you will still get 100% of the Wideband sensors accuracy.

i dont have a pic of it, im gonna see if he can send me one, but dam yeah that must suck. i have mine about a foot from the turbo outlet, but i run a fairly conservative tune because i tuned it my self, and dont want to go too far while tuning on the streets. that heat sink is kind of absurd considering i could make one on the lathe in an hour or so lol.

I would love to be able to move it further down my exhaust, but like I said, it is already as far as it will go.

Rampage,

Let me know what you find out. I need one pretty bad...

If that is actually what my friend has and we find out he doesn't need it ill let you know, if not ill see if i can measure it up and model it in pro/e or SW. the biggest thing is i don't have taps for something like that... it would cost over 40 bux for the taps alone, but if i start looking into building this mayby i can borrow some.
