Default strange issue

I just did my swap in my daily driver. it is a GSR with skunk2 IM and Blox tb along with the basic bolt ons. With that IM I dont have IAB's so I went with a stock ITR map on a P28. Here is the problem. I bought it from HAmotorsports in the sponsor forum on here and go the ECU. I plugged it into the car and it throws a CEL, I tried to pull the codes but the light wont flash and it is in safe mode. I plugged my hondata from my turbo car in to see if it was something with wiring and it was ok with hondata plugged in so it isn't a wiring issue. The P28 makes the car have a rough idle, a lot of vaccum through the IAC, and slightly rough idle(kind of like IAC issues but faster and only about 200rpm range).

Any ideas what it could be?

HAmotorsports emailed me back and they said that sounds like the issue is a corrupt file. They are going to send me out another chip to try so Im keeping my fingers crossed it fixs it.

Ok so Matt at HAmotorsports got me a new chip quick and I get it in the ECU. The car ran awesome for a day or two now there is an even worse issue.

I went to get in the car tonight and turned the key on and got an instant CEL. I tried to pull the code and it wont flash again. I decide to take it for a ride to see what it does. Even clicking the key on and off didnt get the CEL to go out at all and it is in safe mode again. I get home and smell that electrical burning smell. I check the ECU and nothing looks burnt inside the ECU at all. Ive never seen a ECU that is completly fried run in safe mode at all so I think whatever is happening is that the actual tuned chip is getting too much power somewhere and throwing the car back to factory honda settings for safe mode. Any ideas where too look would be awesome.

Also the CEL I have now is also doing the surging idle and a lot of vaccum through the IAC again. Im lost any help would be awesome

Place the chip that you got from HA motorsports in to your Hondata ECU, if the car runs "correctly" then the ECU is your culprit. Likely a cold solder joint somewhere on the ECU board itself.

Corrupt bin file? That doesn't really happen if they verify the rom data & test their ecus before they ship them as they claim they do?

I know we test every ecu 2 times. Once before chipping & once after directly before boxing it up to ship out.

Sounds like your ecu is trashed as it's throwing a solid MIL with or without the service connector jumped. Send it back to them for a new ecu or a refund.

I plugged the ECU back in the next morning and it was fine and has been since. I'm chasing wires looking for a loose ground or anything that would cause these issues. so far so good though.

Why wouldn't HAmotorsports just put p72 fuel and ignition maps on a p30 basemap to eliminate the IAB's?
