Mini me
Hey guys I got a question for y'all I bought a d-series vtec head because I am doing a mini mi swap and my block is the d15b7 so I'm wondering. How can you tell if the head is z6 or y8 ? Let me know because I am confused I really need to know
What he said on the very back of the intake theres a P08 for z6 and P2J for Y8 did you do the mini me or did you buy it like that
most likely your timing belt is off a tooth, I see that a lot. otherwise you probably just have some wires mixed up, so check the codes and do general troubleshooting steps in your haynes manual. if you don't have one, you posted here prematurely.
Being a tooth off wont keep from starting. Would it run as well as it could? No.
He has something else going on. It could still be mechanical timing but one tooth off is't it.
Using a 1.5 block with a Z6 or Y8 head requires a mix of parts due to the dfference in deck height of the 1.5 and 1.6. There's also a difference in cam keyway indexing on the Z6 and Y series relative to TDC that has to be accounted for. What the actual combo of block, head and cam determines the cam gear and mechanical timing method used, Z6 vs Y.

It won't start if you're a tooth off on a mini-me or a shaved deck. The dist rotor won't even make contact with the cap node, and you may not throw a crank sensor code. But try cranking it for a solid half minute and see if you get a code.
