Default freelog data logging/crome

Im having problems with crome and freelog whenever I have my usb up "prolific usb to serial comm port" (rx,tx,ground) to my cn2 port and open freelog goto settings and try to do a loopback test I get loopback failed but if I unhook the ground wire it will pass. If I try and log anything all I get is weird numbers (idle at 9000+ mph at 100+) but once I hook the ground back up nothing works again.
and with crome I can't get anything at all.

Once I get this working I should be able to get everything else working

Thanks for your help

Edit: J12 is cut and I have a obd1 pr4 chipped ecu. Here is what I am using ebay item 261139068171

Sounds like your datalog cable is mixed up. The TX, RX and GND wires might be switched up somewhere between the switch from USB to serial.

Does it have the ability to transfer the ECU signals to the software? I am not familiar with that product or it's ability to convert RS323 signals to 5v TTL signals.

Test the ground signal with a multimeter by touching it to the metal tab of the USB. If it beeps or if you get 0 resistance its GND.
Leave 3.3, 5 and LED unhooked.
Hook up GND to pin 1 on ECU
RX to Pin 2
TX to Pin 4
(If your not getting a signal from the ECU, switch RX and TX around)

This should solve your problems and if it doesn't its most likely that you have a bad usb converter which often happens with these cheap knockoffs.

I have hooked up rx to pin 2 and tx to pin 3 and open freelog and try a loopback test I get a loop back but when i hook the ground up it fails. I have tried that a an old nokia cable and both do the same thing when I hook up ground I get nothing and without it all I get is a good loopback test but nothing else.

PIN 3 is for 5V+ Leave Pin 3 ALONE!

HERE IS THE ECU PINS:
Pin 1 = GND
Pin 2 = RX
Pin 3 = DISCONNECT (NOT USED)
Pin 4 = TX
Pin 5 = UNUSED

Don't even bother with a loop back test, hook it up and if it doesn't work switch pin 2 and 4 around. If that still doesn't work your USB adapter is junk.

Was never a big fan of those adapters since you need to enclose them somehow.
