B16a2 running on a P2P ECU From a D16Y8. Good idea as a temp solution or no?
Hi I’m new here but I was looking for some answers. I bought a 98 ex coupe with a b16a2 swap already in it. I was suprised to see that the Ecu the motor is running on is the stock y8 P2P ECU. Obviously this isn’t ideal but will it be okay to run till I can get a 99-00 em1 P2T or a gsr obd1 Ecu? Also the car would be obd2b right? There is a jumper harness going from the Ecu to the harness (not sure if harness is si or ej8) Just trying to see how this is set up because it all seems very odd.

The best choice would be to find a '96-97 Del Sol DOHC VTEC ECU (P30) and plug directly into the engine harness from your '98 Civic EX. You can try a '99-00 P2T with an OBD-2B -> OBD-2A adapter harness, although you may get some emissions related codes with this option because the parts in the chassis are different.

A '98 manual harness will have THREE ECU plugs and the green crossover plug. A '99-00 EM1 engine harness has only TWO ECU plugs and the green crossover plug... the third ECU plug is part of the under dash harness.

Awesome I got a p2t on the way and then I’ll just need a obd2a to obd2b conversion harness right?

That isn't the path that I suggested... and you may get some unwanted emissions-related issues because of the lack of backwards compatibility.

I’m not too worried about emissions but I want it to run correctly, however what would you suggest.

You will be fine running an ob2a to obd2b jumper harness to run the p2t ecu. There won't be any issues. My brother passed CA bar and ref that way when he swapped a b16a2 into his 98 sedan.

Okay so I decided I’m going the route of using the p2t Ecu, I’m a little confused because all I see is obd2b to obd2a jumper harness, buttt my 98 ej8 is a obd2a right? So wouldn’t I want a obd2a to obd2b harness, not vice versa????
