Does J35 in Ridgeline have FRM sleeves?
Hi folks,
Just rebuilt a J35 in a customer's truck and did not turn out well. Thinking this may be because I did not know about FRM sleeves and the nuances of honing/boring them.
I've tried Googling this w/o success. Does anyone know if this block has FRM sleeves?
Thanks?

Looking at this post and everything I have come across in the past, I would say no.

It was the H series motors that got the FRM sleeves. I think your J is standard sleeving.
As for your oil burning, how did you break in the rings?

TomCar,
Thanks for your reply. I broke in the rings the way I usually do--about twenty fairly-aggressive acceleration runs from idle up to about 50 m.p.h. and then letting off the throttle abruptly, letting the high vacuum pull oil from the cylinder walls.
I should have checked the roundness/concentricity of the cylinders but there was no hint of any sort of ridge on the top the cylinder, leading me to "assume" there wasn't much wear on the cylinders.
Ironically, I owned a 1991 Prelude 2.0 s.i. that had the FRM cylinders but I didn't know it. I put new rings in that, honed the cylinder liners in a standard way, and it worked fine for years. Just luck, I guess.

Brand new fuel injectors and o2 sensors. New timing belt complete kit with all pulleys, tensioners, and Aisin water pump.
Intakes and valve covers cleaned of grease, carbon, etc.
Replaced rod and main bearings, tho they all looked surprising good. Crank did not need to be polished. Installed new DNJ Taiwanese standard-size pistons and rings. Honed cylinders with a ball hone.
The only think I wish I had done was to check the cylinders for roundness and taper but I don't have a cylinder dial bore gauge. Since there was no ridge at the top of the cylinders I "assumed" there wasn't much wear on them, but this may be my main problem.
I'm hoping the rings will eventual seat. I have 250 miles on so far and they should have seated long ago.
Thanks for your input.

that's probably because the 2.0Si (b20a5) had steel cylinders lol. the Si (b21a1) is the one with FRM
