not really ....
TyBo takes some skill but is mostly just something that remotely looks like kickboxing. Kickboxing is the real deal.
Drifting takes some skill but is mostly just something that remotely looks like racing. Racing is the real deal.
see how that works.

Eh, that's a rather spurious analogy. So does that mean rally drivers are not the real deal? They do a lot of big high speed slides but they don't even do them in the presence of other cars. Granted, they need a navigator to read out the turns to them but the car control skills are similar.
Maybe the drifting you've seen looks like some low skill stuff but I can honestly say the top D1GP guys are professionals at car control. And rightly so since a lot of the top guys are racers as well.
I don't see why people are spending so much energy trying to diss drifting. I imagine it has a lot to do with the jealously of its popular but hey, why don't we try to find out what is making them successful and emulate it rather than wasting our time trying to poo poo it (no **** sex jokes please).

No, rally drivers are doing it for time not for looks. If it's the fastest way around then I'm all for it, but it's not when it comes to the D1 crap.

Ok, that still doesn't make Drifting good. Drifting is what it is, moving rice. It looks nice, and has smokey burnouts, and is judged subjectively. That means it's not a motor sport. It's not racing, therefore this thread should be in the Group discussion, or cosmetics forums.

One could argue the etymology of motorsport but I think that'd be a waste of time. You don't like drifting, fine. On the totem pole of driving skills I would rate it at the very least, above drag racing and probably somewhere around autocrossing. It is a judge sport, but so what. It makes the sport less legitimate as a pure form of competition but that doesn't mean its worthless. Just like NASCAR. Parity is shamelessly manipulated and the show is managed to cause more contact and drama sometimes but it doesn't mean NASCAR is totally worthless (especially considering its fan base).
To me drifting is something of a sideshow. I'll never go to a drift event over a real race. But its entertaining to watch and to date the D1GP guys have put on an excellent show, much better than World Challenge in some ways.
Here's an assignment, try to find some World Challenge apparel/merchandise on the net. Then do the same for D1GP. I find it appalling that a professional series where competitors spend over $100k a year can't even make the effort to offer apparel for fans to purchase yet the drift sideshow has that on lockdown.
Maybe you're right though, maybe there needs to be a drift forum. Right now there doesn't seem to be enough interest in it to warrant it (especially on a Honda forum) and it doesn't seem that bothersome to me right now. For the life of me I don't see how someone could see the title "Drift haters, DO NOT click" and decide that they need to come in and criticize drifting. Honestly, if you don't care about drifting, don't click on it. Again I just think some people feel jealously and hate because drifting has sparked so much interest where road racing has not.

you can make arguments about any subjects in the world and you will find positives and negatives about it. such is life. most if not all the drift haters on this forum choose to completely ignore the positive sides of drifting.
same could be said for driving students car... but that's another subject.
but one main points was, the subject was crystal clear. drift hater trolls needs to learn to stfu and stay outta these threads.
