Default Vacuum Pump

Is anyone using an electric vacuum pump in their car? Are there any hp gains?

We did a vacuum pump in my buddys auto awd dsm. It wasnt installed for freeing up HP. we used it for the fact that needing to be hard on the brakes for staging and tryin to build boost on the line were working against each other. It made a difference in that fact, but i dont see how it would free up horsepower in a normal manual car that doesnt need to be on the brakes like the auto DSM.

waste of time and money. most likely you are going to end up with a huge oily mess all over your engine bay.

better off sticking with a decent catch can setup.

Thanks for the feedback so far. I've been reading about v8 applications that have picked up 20-40hp with one, just wanted to see if an i4 has seen any power gains.

correct me if i'm wrong but vacuum pumps were illegal in some class rules in the nopi days. so i haven't seen anyone try it. the idea of creating negative pressure in the crank case should free up a little horsepower, but i'm not sure if it would be enough to be worth the trouble. however i would be curious to see.

also the "oily mess" is a strong possibility, but could probably be avoided if you set the system up right.

i believe tony has tried a 5 stage vacuum pump with no luck...there was an old post that he made saying with a good catch can setup, he was seeing 0.5 psi of crankcase pressure on a dyno pull.

the electric vacuum pumps are garbage. most v8 guys that are seeing extra hp are running belt driven vacuum pumps

would you happen to have a brand or site for this pump? Im having the sasme issue with my auto car, its fading the brakes on the stall.

vacuum setups do work if they are large enough or pull enough to keep the bottom end vaccumed down as in below the rings. large V8s, high compression v8s and forced induction V8s run them and yes most of them are belt driven or mechanical as they keep up pace with the motor as it accelerates.

tony did a couple tests and IIRC he was kinda shocked at with and without the aid or removing the excess pressure

Thats the pump we put on his car. Its holding the car back with it building 20psi on a GTX45R on just the foot brake.

And sorry for my ignorance, i thought you guys were talking vacuum pumps for brake systems.
