Something is wrong in HotRod class...

Yeh, your right . I'm not pointing my finger at Marty,I'm pointing it at the team owner or GM(whoever runs the Pontiac sunfire team.)We'd all liked to be a paid driver so again sorry Marty. But hey, what about the manually shifted tranny no automatics.Just trying to figure out a way to make it a level playing field.Anyone else have suggestions.

yeah i agree... weight/displacement and manuel shift trannys... that sound like a good solution.. if we honda guys dont have auto why should they....

its not the rules that make that is making the difference........its the noteriety that nhra brings......in some peoples eyes NOPI is still second tier compared to NHRA
the reason GM/MOPAR and all the other corperate teams are leaning toward nhra is becuase its supposedly more popular. its understandable that other teams are leaning towards NOPI is becuase at least there they wont be racing multimillion dollar teams and having their asses handed....they will be racing the other teams that started in this sport from scratch like everyone else did...

yes alot of people think NOPI is a second string series, but this year should be their breakout year and most of the racers have finally figured out that NOPI will listen to the small teams. because they know without the small teams youll have what the nhra has now. i really feel sorry for the fans for nhra having to shell out like 50 bones to watch 5 cars in alot of the classes. the only saving grace for nhra this weekend was alot of people made awsome passes in a variety of classes. i guess well just have to wait and see how many pro cars show up for nopi this weekend.

why dont we as honda people stop crying about the rules ans pick it up a little or motor and chassie ability are not tap out like some people say. i remember when cars where going mid 9s for a long time and people started to say that we could not go any faster. now cars are running880,870,860, 850 and lower its just time to go back to the drawing board and come up with some new stuff. HONDA POWER
If NOPI opened a west coast warehouse, things might play out differently. Maybe east coast and west coast racing series events and then one huge superbowl in Dallas. Could be affordable for everyone.
the xtrac is allowed with nhra, with weight penalty
ive been hearing a lot of things about the gm chassis setup being questionable... if theres corruption inside NHRA then whats the point of even debating the direction hot rod needs to take...
doesnt honda have blocks up to 2.4l now assuming the K series motors?
weight penalties by engine displacement might not be a bad option, i know a lot of the honda guys are still around 2.0liters
a lot of my opinions are biased though because im with the gardella camp and i know the car is capable of challenging mopar and gm
oh one last thought... what about letting honda guys run aftermarket blocks to make up for the lack of displacement our motors have to the domestics, can you get big bores out of dart blocks or any other companies im not familiar with?

The problem is not the class but the payouts in the class and the other classes. These sanctioning bodies must understand that in order to get full fields they must pay to qualify and also pay everyone who wins a round of eliminations. A few years ago the NMCA had very small car counts so they increased the incentive to bring your car to race. If you brought your car and qualified you received money. Soon there were 25-30 cars trying to get into a 16 car field.
They should lower the class winners payout and year end championship money and spread it around. Lets face it, usually the team with the most money wins. That team usually isn't racing for the money they are racing to promote their products.
There will always be complaints that one team has more than another. There will never be a way to fix that. But there are many ways to increase car counts and have more fun at the race track. The cost to run any of the pro classes for a year is very expensive. I tell people you could win every race, get every dollar of contingency, get the championship points money and you will still lose money at the end of the year. But do it to have fun and it will be worth it.
In South Florida there are many Hot Rod caliper cars that were parked this weekend. Don't you think they would have raced if they had some kind of incentive??

Just to add...
The GM Motors are 2.0 liters and have no nitrous. The block is stock EcoTec not SAAB. There are a couple of motors with the SAAB head but none for the Sunfire.
I talked to a few of the GM crew people this weekend and they were great...answered some very specific questions and gave me some pointers about my rear suspension and wheelie bars. That EcoTec build book basically shows how to make an 1100 hp engine. According to the crew guy the are trying to get a version of the autotrans for sale with parts.
The object of racing is to go faster within the rules...the rules will get more strict in the future they just are there yet. Instead of Flaming go up and ask some questions you might learn something.

On another note...look at NHRA's track record if they don't get the attendance they want...
they drop it..they better figure it out quick or
idrc will make a comeback...look at nhra trucks..
25 trucks every race trying to qualify then the pulled the rug out...or nitro bikes hard pressed to put buts in the stands so they pull the rug out...if they don't pull fans is the sport gonna fizzle and go back to grass roots and only hard core racers remain?...that like to just run...
Back to hot rod...Gas wouldn't work it would have to be turbo size and boost limit and
nitrous limit tires would kill top end and make the cars retain a unibody....no cutting except nose high 8's i can live with but sevens...
We have made 900 wheel hp and run 8.76
and on a budget thats hard to keep enough trannies and engines..

How about the system they use in Speed Channels' World Challenge? There is such a diversified field, adding weight to winners, it tries to equallize the field..
R.E.W.A.R.D.S. System: Rewarding of Equalizing Weight Assigned to Reduce Driver Sensitivity, commonly referred to as "REWARDS Weight" is a weight equalization system based on the addition and subtraction of ballast weight based on the finishing position of individual drivers in the previous race(s). The goal of the REWARDS System is to provide close on-track competition between a diverse variety of cars in the top third of the field. REWARDS System weight adjustments are in effect for the next race in which a driver competes in the same class. Weight adjustments (in pounds) are as follows:
1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th
+75 +6? +45 +30 +15 0
7th 8th 9th 10th 11th 12+
-10 -20 -30 -40 -50 -60
Team Compensation Weight: This system allows car/driver combinations not currently affected by the REWARDS System to remove 25 lbs from their vehicle’s Appendix A base weight, to a maximum of -100 lbs, if they finish outside of the top 50 percent of finishing positions. Weight is added back on in 25 lb. increments each time they finish in the top 40 percent of finishing positions until they reach their vehicle’s Appendix A base weight. If a car/driver combination finishes in a top five position, it will move out of the Team Compensation program and into the REWARDS System for the next race. The purpose of the Team Compensation Weight is to provide close on-track competition between a diverse variety of cars and drivers in the lower half of the field.

in motocross when a rider is significantly faster than the rest of the people in his class or as fast as the next class up he is required to move up. maybe the cars that are running so close to pro fwd speeds should just be put in pro fwd. seems logical to me
Those with money will always figure out how to go faster with the new limitations. Although I do agree that the auto tranny, 1100hp to be an advantage.
Dmotoguy, brings up a good point, but what if Pro FWD picks up the pace and leaves Marty behind?
I think the only way to tighten the fields is the REWARDs Weight system(only cuz I brought it up in the previous post ;P) This way factory backed and privateers can race together as in World Challenge.

We have the same leveling system in my hockey leage. If one team is killin all the other teams by a set amount of points or more, the team is required to move up to a higher level leage, or make adjustments to the team to make it compeditive.
I agree with dmotoguy, a rule like this could help to level out the field...
