Slicks/Gearing/Downfall Questions
So excuse me for my newb-ness to FWD/slicks, but I am needing to know this.
I have a K20a-T that makes 520whp. It has a base RSX tranny w/ pretty long gears.
info on car: 98 Integra GSR, 8600 redline, RSX Base 5spd tranny, 520whp/369tq
I've used http://www.fatboyraceworks.com/gears/ calculator to figure out my gearing and mph through the gears.
4th gear is quite long and I assume my car will trap between 130 and 140 (optimistic) with perfect conditions...
Now, I don't have slicks and am planning on borrowing some for just a few passes. Using that calculator on the above link, I could get away with 22's and still have 4th gear top out at 139mph.
I am told I want 24.5's but with tires that tall, I'd have really long gears (4th would goto 155mph)
with 23's I would get 4th to go 145mph.
Now, the question is, is there anything BAD about getting smaller tires when my tranny's gearing will end up compensating the mph correctly?
I have only raced AWD cars and haven't ever used slicks and messed w/ tires/gearing so I really don't know.
ANY input would be appreciated. A friend is willing to let me borrow his 22" slicks if I want. I just don't know if it's worth trying then or if I should try and find 23" ones instead.

Re: Slicks/Gearing/Downfall Questions
the 500hp will over power the 22s since its a small tire. Then your gearing will somewhat be thrown out the window since there is going to be wheel spin.
The gearing calculators will only work if there is no wheel spin and in perfect conditions where there is traction. I wouldnt sacrifice proper tire height for gearing "calculations". Its one of those things that you just have to try out for yourself and see how the car reacts to it.

who cares about growth, them tires are ****ing tiny. put the 24.5's on the car and rev the **** out of the car, if the power is there the car will go fast.

Whats the correction factor on that dyno graph? 520hp dyno dynamics uncorrected is alot. You're gonna want the "out of the hole" traction that 24.5" will give you.

Re: Slicks/Gearing/Downfall Questions
I did find someone who'd lend me 24.5's, but decided against going to that track. I am gonna goto another track and use some 23x8's that will be available to me... hopefully I get half decent runs.

What would the downfall of me getting 26x8x15's be... if I found a really good deal on them? I'd have to raise my front up but I mean it'd just be for the track... Too big? Would I bog too hard/potentially break axles easier?
