Default how many go into 5th?(1/4 mile)

Im just wondering how many people have to go into 5th gear in the 1/4 mile? With what transmission? How much whp? and times?

Reason I ask, is I ran 12.9@111mph topping out at the end of 4th on street tires(boosted b16 w/ ITR tranny). If I were to run slicks, this would give me a better ET, but does that necessarily mean I will have to go into 5th? I hate goin into 5th, sometimes it feels like its gonna go into 3rd.

I had to go into 5th with a LS tranny on small 20 inch slicks. No fun at all, so I just coasted across the line.

But on my race car, I am at 8500 or so GSR tranny with 24.5" slicks at ~127-128 mph.

If you got the right tire combo, a larger size it would help you out a little bit.

hmm i trapped 118 and stayed in 4th with a b16/si tranny but i think i was revving to 8500 or so. This was also on 205/50/15 azenis. What are you revving to? si and itr have pretty much the same gear ratios right?

edit: to answer your question, the slicks aren't gonna make you go into 5th just because youll have a better et. They'll actually help you out assuming they're taller than your tires now.

You should be good with 24.5"+ slicks, or 225/235/15 dr's. If you go to 5th you might as well pack it up and go home.

larger tires will give you more mph in each gear. if you are right on the border of 4th and 5th, then get some slighly bigger tires and that will keep you in 4th.

Rev higher, taller tires, or put in a longer final drive/4th gear.

whats so bad about 5th? i know its high load and a usually not-completely-tuned portion of the map; but with a wideband and egt id think you could keep an eye on things...

Ive been in 5th a few times at high speed WOT and the engine was just fine just kept an eye on egts

id imagine its just having to shift again, especially if you are doing it crossing through the traps it will perhaps take some mph and et(?) off

Yea, way to vague, you have to ask the question like this.....

I'm a complete noob when it comes to 1320's, what et and/or mph could I expect when tracking a 325whp gsr engine reving 8500-9000 with gsr tranny, on 215/60/14 bfg dr's, nuespeed race springs, koni yellows (at stiffest setting) in a full int ej1 chassis? This is all of course assuming that I am not a completely retarded driver......only partially retarded (and I am talking about me so don't get feelings).

ive been using this website to help figure out where each gear tops out. has options for tire size, and rpm. most honda transmissions. its seems to be pretty accurate. also allows you to compare 2 different transmissiosn.
