Lightweight battery for high compression engine
I have a problem finding a lightweight battery that can start up my 16:1 engine. I tried using a Odyssey PC680 but that won't even turn the engine over. Right now I have to use a big 60 amp battery and that sucks big time. What light weight / drycell battery should be ok for my application?
just thought of this as i am working on a chop saw,
do they make de-compression buttons he hee?
what about a gear reduction starter? i think there is one for a honda.

I use an Odyssey 0675-2028. It is small but not lightweight. 60 amps is very small. You need to use a sufficient size battery and put it where the weight will be beneficial. You may have other issues if your odyssey 680 is not working
I have that EXACT battery and it turns over my 15.1 b-series with no issues at all.... Like Tony said, there is something else wrong.

I was thinking the same but when I use the 60 amp hours battery from a small truck it fires up right away. If a PC680 should be plenty for a 16:1 engine why are several pro allmotor cars using a big Powermaster battery? That thing weighs 33 lbs.

I am thinking dead cell, sulfided plates, improper charge maybe. Sounds like you have an issue with your battery. You can take it to a Odyssey dealer to have it checked.

and they are 16volts.
bigger fuel pumps like the higher voltage too.

Look into Powermaster. They have release a new series of batteries.
They also have available the 16v batteries too in a standard and lightweight.
They also have a stock size Honda battery that has 800 Cranking amps.
We are using them in our drag car and have not had any issues and we are not running an alternator.

I'm using a stock RSX charging harness so that should not be the problem. The battery is brand new and I did check the voltage across it before it was installed. I will look into it tomorrow. Otherwise thanks for the suggestions

Check for the MR Gasket High Torque Starter on here. For my 12.5 (I know quite a bit less C/R) but it starts like stock with a PC680 while the stock starter died pretty quick. They say its good for 18:1 C/R.
