thankyou my question was how long do typical waxes last and in between "full details" should you hose it down everyone once in a while or what?
how often do you suggest detailing your car.

I still wash my car at least once a week between details. Your mom's car will look a lot better if you just wash it now.

Different waxes last different amounts of time depending on the type of wax, the number of coats and the region the car is in (weather and such).

what would you recommend to clean carpet? without pulling it out etc. i've got tons of grease stains. also, what do you usually do about excessive dust build up? i get done vacuming my car one day, next day later its covered in dust!

also, is there a secret in making your car less attractive to dust? I mean, I get done waxing, etc everything. It turns out like the pictures you post, then one night later, it's covered in DUST! (My car is yellow btw)

For the interior, your car will stay virtually dust free if you don't open the windows. I've noticed a big difference between my car and my boyfriend's car. I usually keep my windows up, but he drives with his down almost all the time. His gets very dusty very fast, but not mine (though it's been worse since my A/C compressor shaft broke - I have to roll the windows down now).

I've seen an interior detailing product that's supposed to be anti-static. That might be worth a try to you.

For the paint though, pollen seems almost attracted to the wax. I know bugs will swarm to a clean car too, but you can shoo them away. Wiping pollen off risks scratching your paint. Especially if you don't use a lubricant (detail spray) when you wipe it off.

So besides cutting down the pollen shedding trees, garaging the car or otherwise covering the car, there's probably not much you can do to prevent it from getting pollen on it.

I couldn't tell you where the dust could be coming from, and would likely be more of an issue in trying to stop than the pollen, besides that you could try not to drive on dry dirt roads.

covering up makes things worse actually, cus all the dust gets trapped and therefore makes the cover dirty, i noticed it. everytime i took the covers off my car would be super dusty and dirty.

yeah, cleaning the cover may help, but it causes dust to build up faster.

also, any tips on the carpet?

i was wondering about dust on the outside.
theres something around my girlfreinds house that just covers the cars overnight in a pollon dust sort of thing.
a day after fully detailing the car it is covored and dirty. very easy to wipe off but is that all i can do besides a car cover.
ps i detailed her dads old old g wagon and this week his lr defender it was a bitch but they are the most gorgeous trucks out there.
thanks again.

Glad it helped. There's probably some sort of tree at your girl's house that puts off a lot of pollen. That's how it was at th apartment I used to live at (I could see this liquid sap raining off of some of the trees too ).

If my car gets really nasty I just wash it as soon as I have time. A detailed car is pretty easy to wash at least.

Hey I used to do pro detailing as well, so I would be more then happy to help answer any questions. I have used almost every product out there, so let me know how I can assist everyone.

I also know of a few "lung, freindly products" that work just as well with out all the cancer.

Before you offer any advice, please keep in mind this thread is for HAND detailing, not machine. There has been some confusion before on this.

I'm all for machine detailing tips too, but they wouldn't belong in this thread.

This thread is meant for the average car owner who doesn't wish to learn which machine he should get, invest in a machine, and risk swirls and other damage.

So I try to keep most suggestions to things an average person could do with products bought at local stores.

Oh I understand that. Machine detailing is such an art, that I think it is almost impossible to describe with out doing hands on experience. Things can go wrong very quickly!

A nice strong shop vac will help to begin with. Also you can get a carpet brush to help bring up some one the sand that may be buried deep with in the nap.

Simple green usually works great, but you could also use Castrol super clean. This product from Stoner, also works well http://www.criticalcleaning.com/94213.htm

As far as using a machine, does it just have a cloth attachment or can you get different cutting disks for it? Most of the ones taht just have reusable clothes are pretty easy to avoid damage with.

Agreed. Get an upholstery brush and brush the sand up.

Finally found the time to detail the car, took me 5 hours even though i skipped the glaze. Since my car's white, it didn't make an eye-popping difference, but the shine is deeper, and more details can be seen in the reflection. the yellow wax also made the paint feel greasy smooth, it's nice.

It's okay, but I prefer to use their professional shampoo myself (comes in a big container, very concentrated, and basically just in auto body shops).

From what I have seen, MOST car washes have about the same effect. What will help get/keep your car cleaner is to make sure you keep fresh wax on it. It is very important to follow the steps that have been outlined by the OP so you have a "blank canvas" on your car. That is, you don't have any oxidation or gunk on your paint. With the wax keeping everything sealed you will find it much easier to clean your car. You would be surprised how clean just rain can rise your car if it is parked and the paint has been maintained.

Yep. I prefer the "wax booster" or "wash and wax" shampoos if I go with a normal store brand though. Some of them actually do seem to not break down the wax so much.

What is "it" your looking to do? I'm a little unsure what you want to do. Thanks!

If what your worried about is weather a product is safe for single stage or clear coats, most are 99% compatible with each other.

Single Stage- Primer then layers of color.

Clear Coat- Primer, thin layer of color, few layers of clear coat.

All paint is measured in Mils which can tell you how deep you could buff or possible places where the car has been repainted.

Here is an example http://www.defelsko.com/applic...g.htm
