85 hatch idles fine but won't run under load.
I have a 85 hatch that I devac'd almost 2 years ago and it ran great until I parked it for almost a year. Now I got it all started up, float level is good, idle speed is good, new fuel filters, new fuel pump, new fuel, but for some reason it runs fine just sitting but if you try to drive it, it just stalls out and wont really run again till it cools off. When I drive it it runs for less then a minute then it just sounds like it's sucking huge amounts of air with no combustion. If I'm in neural I can romp on the gas and it runs but dies as soon as I stop romping on it. I don't get why I can run it all day and rev it up and it's fine, until I try to drive it. I was told it maybe the choke? But it's like pop riveted on and don't wanna just go drilling them out without any further advise.

Re: 85 hatch idles fine but won't run under load.
When you first start to drive it where it runs properly for a minute or so, does it run well then at part throttle and full throttle, or does it still run poorly but doesn't stall? Does it run ok at very light throttle going slowly, or only at idle? Did you replace ALL of the fuel filters? To test if it is a choke problem, once it's warmed up you can try to tie the choke linkage so it stays all the way open. It sounds to me like the most likely cause is that there is some dried crud or trash that is partly blocking the primary main jet in your carb.
