Hey guys, i just had a system installed in my 300zx a while back (2 10" fosgate punches, 4x infinity 6.5" reference speakers, mtx thunder 450 watt 4 channel, and a kenwood 1800 watt mono block) it was working fine and i went out of town for a week or so, went to start it up again and the rear speakers are dead and the front passenger speaker is really weak. the drivers side is the only one that still sounds strong. The rear speakers still barely put out sound, but i have to put my ear up to it to hear it. The weatherstripping is old so the car leaks slightly and there were a couple big rainstorms that week, so that might have something to do with it. I thought maybe the fuse blew coming from the battery but i have both amps coming through the same fuse and the subs still work fine. Maybe I blew a fuse on the 4 channel? but then why would 1 speaker still sound fine? maybe a wire came loose? but i cant imagine why since the car was sitting still. I dunno much about car audio so im not sure where to start. Any suggestions?

Try to swap out the rear speakers and see if there is water damage to them. There is definitely water damage somewhere

yeah, thats what i figured but i was hoping it was something cheaper. i was going to swap out the speakers for something better eventually anyhow, but i dont want to do it until the leak is fixed in case it happens again. But what are the chances that all three are dead/got wet? would it be possible for something else to get wet that would affect the speakers?

I would look at the amp because the front speaker is on the blitzs too. Make sure everything is dry first before you do anything.

grg3135 Ditto what killer said, water will have a negative effect on anything electrical, including wiring and connections.

The first thing I would do is disconnect all 4 speakers from amp, using the one speaker that is working touch those speaker leads to the 3 other sets of speaker terminals on the amp, [system on and playing], that will let you know if it is the speakers or the amp or something before the amp, [RCAs or HU], if all 4 speaker outputs on amp are working then the problem has to be the speakers, the wiring going to the speakers, the connections to the speakers or the speakers themselves. 94

i tried it and all the speakers sound fine from the drivers side front port. Im assuming that its an amp problem but it almost sounds as though the working speaker sounds louder than it SHOULD be. Does that happen? if its only putting power to one speaker instead of four, does it put more power to that one speaker? i dont know, maybe ill just pick up another four channel amp

Toss the 4 channel and get a new one. But this time make sure that you fix the leak or move it to a new location so it does not get wet.

Your amp has definitely gone west, time for a new one.

Yes, actually if only one load, [speaker] is connected to a 2 or 4 channel amp it will be louder, amps power supply is only powering one channel, however the differance is minimal and am not sure you could hear the difference, it probably has more to do with disconnecting the loads, [speakers] from the damaged channels. 94

well, thats the wierd part, i cant imagine how it got water on it, its dead center in my trunk, raised about an inch off of the trunk floor on a wooden platform, and its directly next to my monoblock amp, which still works perfectly. maybe the mono is more durable

Try this, connect a speaker to the channel that works, then one by one plug the 4 RCAs into that channels input, this will eliminate, [or confirm] that the RCAs are not the problem. 94

yeah, i checked it out and all rca cables are a-ok. guess its the amp. maybe it was just on its last leg. i bought it used
