Custom Box
.....it's easy to get a single 10 or 12 in the right or left side of the trunk on a vertical baffle with the entire box behind the trunk lid hinge...etc.
sorry I don't. Your best bet is to mask off that entire area first with masking tape and then go over it with tin-foil. Be sure to mask off anything you could get resin on as it is hard if not impossible to get it out or off things. Next mix up your resin to spec and brush it on the tinfoil be sure to work fairly quickly. Then Lay on strips of fiberglass mat or cloth. The first coat of resin will make this stick now. Take your brush and add resin to the cloth making sure you have no air bubble and a uniform coat of resin, add anothother layer of mat and follow the same procudure for about 4-5 layers. Let it dry and you can then pull the part out of the side of your car. Next step is to make a speaker ring for whatever size sub you are using. This will be the wooden part of your box. You will need to make wooden braces to hold the ring to the rest of the fiberglass part you previously made in the proper angle. Next stretch some fleece or a cotton t-Shirt over the front staple the material to the inside of the baffle. Next stretch the material to the edges of the fiberglass box. Then brush on the resin uniformly and let it tack up. Build on this with a few more layers of fiberglass and the basic box is complete. If you have any question please ask.
Ya, finally got back in here. Well, heres the deal.. I already made mine all out and its pretty much done. I am a little bit worried about the whole tshirt thing, whats up with that? I dont have one, but could put one on top or bottom... Top preferably, cause I expect it to be smooother. I cut the holes yesterday. I just got to smooth out a lil more, patch it up, and paint it. I got the top and bottom done, and subs fitted. Tops not as smooth as i would like it. I got some pics from like last monday of my box, and what direction I was thinking about puttin it. [URL][http://www.teaminterlude.com/setup.asp?ModelID=459/URL] Thats after 4 layers and my first sanding. Now, I have sanded it 3 times and put 8 layers on it. Its alot smoother, but still not perfect. Could i put caulk in the dips to smooth it out a little. Or should i just build another layer that will fix the hole, but leave a air hole in it? OK, bottom line... what can I do cheaply and easily to improve appearance without messing with the sound quality of the box.
Id be interested in trying a project like this....Id just be a bit afraid of ******* up my interior since im a neat freak.

80% prep, and 20% actual labor on the part....it's all in the planning....if you plan these kinds of projects really well, then they are easy to execute. Typically, it takes experience to really learn how to get fiberglass right the first time....I guess what I'm saying is that there is an "easy" way to work with fiberglass, and there's a hard way.
When Thinking about maken a spare tire enclosure, how do u know about how much cubic Feet u got in there, or how does a shop do it? like in a Crx spare tire well, what can u fit? one or two 12" woofers
Well, its easiest to do this by building the wheel well first and then filling the enclosure with water from a gallon milk jug. Measure the number of gallons the eonclosure will hold, and guestimate the amount of neede air space for the top, Like mine, i needed 1.5 ft^3 for my box and the bottom had .85 ft^3 I assumes that i was rasing my top, and it should eb about the same depth. Guestimated and then total came out to 1.47 ft^3.... which I think is about perfect! Just fill it with water so u get a rough estimate and modify as needed
The quickest and easiest way is to use foam peanuts. Just fill a container with a known volume and add to your box do not pack them in just fill. This will give you a really close idea.
