Re: another 4wd civic build
ya Im very excited to get it done as well. got a few things banged out today on the car. fuel cell is mounted which actually turned out really clean, Ill have to post some pics tomorrow when its light out. I started fabbing a rear diff mount but once I got it up and mocked up I kept having issues with hyper extending the drivers side axle so Im going to redo it tomorrow and move it over more to the drivers side.

thanks man I hope everything works out well. got some more done today but still need to finish mounting the diff. welded the diff, not pretty but she will hold. always make sure you click the axles in before welding the spider gears together or you will have issues getting the axles in.

just white ctr wheels. been waiting on them for a few weeks now, the kid Im buying them from is getting his car painted but you know how painters are so as soon as its out of the shop they are mine.

nice, Im a huge dsm fan but I could see a downside to the weight of the cast iron block. if I was gonna build a 4g63 powered car it would just be a clean 1ga. I really like how the 1gs look and feel like the are usually very underestimated anyways.

I'm not very familiar with the CRV awd system, but how will that welded rear diff work on the street and around corners? Track-only build?
You'll have a sweet little evo/sti-killer!

Re: another 4wd civic build
a welded rear diff is nothing new, look at alot of 240s. it will be streetable just fine. the worst is going to just be a little hop when turning in a parking lot. Iv even ran welded front diffs before and they aren't that bad.

Re: another 4wd civic build
Im really struggleing with mounting the rear diff. it seems like no matter what I do to mount it one of the axles ends up hyper extended. Iv welded the rear mount in twice now to have to cut it back out. does any one have any insight? maybe the wagon axles just aren't long enough? or I need two of the long ones?
I did a little research and found that the drivers side axle is 29.8125" and the passenger side axle is 28.0625" compressed length. Im thinking I can run both driver side axles to get rid of my problem. id love some feed back from any one else who has done a rt4wd conversion but If I can't get any info from someone who has hands on Im just going to mount the diff in the center and get a new dr side rear axle to help with the length on them.

good call allmtrrex. I just hate bugging people since I get the same **** all the time with questions I feel people could answer by a little bit of searching.

Yeah. I've always been the same way. Although, if they were to see your build thread and progress maybe they would be a little more willing to share info about the problems they had with the Wagon differential and how they worked around it.

Re: another 4wd civic build
after about 20 pages of looking through rally sol's build I found out he ran two drivers side rear axles. apparently they can still be bought new from autozone so Im going in to order one here shortly. pretty stoked that that will fix the problem since I felt like I was going to loose my mind over this damn rear end situation lol.

Re: another 4wd civic build
got the rear diff mount (the rubber one) setup properly just time to finish the cross bar. also called about 10 different auto parts stores including the honda dealership looking for a rear drivers side axle from a wagon. honda said they could order the cv shaft and outter spline with no inner for $418!!!!!!!!!! er meh gerd. that is sooo redicerous! finally tracked one down through napa for $83 + core charge. should be here thursday at the latest so in the mean time, time to get some ish done.

it is easy lol. people just like to over complicate things lol. don't get me wrong its alot of work but not that much more then changing over all your suspension in the first place. so far the only hard part of the fab work has been the rear diff mount and thats only because I didn't realize that I needed two drivers side rear axles since the pass side one is too short and a eg has a wider stance then a wagon. more pics will be posted later today once I get a bit more progress.

soo happy with how today has gone so far. it was finally somewhat warm (45 degrees) instead of 32-35ish. it also didn't rain the whole day which was really nice. I finished mounting the rear diff and got one of the brake caliper mounts finished. the other one should be pretty simple now that Iv done one contacted a buddy whos dad runs a drive shaft and axle shop about shortening my drive shaft but Im still a bit uncertain how want to go about it.
