since i removed the interior i've found change and broken glass under the seats and carpet.
The linkage that goes to the hatch lock fell off the cylinder and was rubbing against metal. The panels have insulated tape on the back that is 18 years old and deteriorated. I'll replace the insulation add probably add more in some places. The cargo cover rattles, i'll figure out something for that. That's where the majority of my rattles are coming from. The car will probably still rattle but it won't be as bad.
update-
the ef is finally garaged. bought a big *** compressor and some air tools. i had to make sure the air tools worked so i setup the compressor and started removing the interior. 15 minutes later the only thing left was the dash and carpet. The carpet is coming out tomorrow to be cleaned. Once the dash and carpet comes out i'm going to clean the vents and ductwork and handwash the inside. hopefully that old car smell will be gone.

Walked into the garage saturday morning and decided to clean up the workspace. All parts except bumper supports was moved to the attic. Now i don't have to worry about dust from sanding and overspray.
These could be the worst looking seats ever. I'll get these reupholstered and they'll work for a while. The rear seats look like the front. Right now they're outside next to the garbage can because i have some clean si seats to replace them.

Removed most of the interior. Looked pretty bad after the carpet was out. Cleaned out the car with a garden hose followed by the shop vac.

Decided to remove the sound deadning material. I though about using dry ice but i was too lazy to drive to the store and buy it. Instead i used mapp gas and a painters tool. 80% of it is gone now. after i do the r front part of the floor it will be done.
Found some low spots in the bodyfill so i redid those. Sanded the roof and scuffed up the left side of the car. Sanded off the pinstripe and removed the side trim.
I'm buying my gravity fed hvlp sprayer this week.

you know this is exactly why i wish I had a garage, I love doing this stuff and its great to see others with the same passion. Good job and its looking good, keep it up and don't ever give up.

What is mapp gas, and where can I get it? Does it remove the sound deadening cleanly? Im going to do the sound deadening on my crx soon and im looking at my options, when I did it on my 93 Si it took forever with a heatgun. Thanks.
Your progress is looking good! Keep on posting pics, I love these kinds of threads.

yestreday was a great day. did absolutely nothing at work and managed to get home early. spent an hour removing sound deadning material.picked up two cans of wd40 and some pneumatic fittings from home depot on the way home. finished removing the remaining tar and cleaned up the mess with the shop vac and wd-40. filled up the shop vac twice and ended up throwing away about 10 lbs of tar.

mapp gas is similar to an oxyacetylene torch but it's much cheaper. you can find it at home depot in the plumbing section. if you have a good scraper and patience then you'll have good results. sharpening the edges of the painters tool with a file sped up the job considerably. keep moving the torch around using short bursts of heat and the tar comes off like butter. remove as much of the tar as you can with the scraper. pick up a few cans of wd40, spray it over the tar and let it sit overnight. The next day most of it can be wiped off with a terry cloth. http://bernzomatic.com/bernzom...38559

thanks for all the compliments guys

sound deadning material is removed. the tools pictured and 40 oz. of wd40 got the job done.
honda made a mess when they used seam sealer so i cleaned up that mess with the wire wheel and sandpaper. the por-15 dried up but i was able to remove the dried up part and scrounged enough from the bottom of the container to primer half of the hatch area. removed my diy vapor barrier from inside the door and removed more trim.
ordered the hvlp gun today.

This is really awesome, Where are you going to get new trim pieces? Mine look like crap...you are doing a great job, hopefully I can follow in your footsteps sometime down the road.

cleaned up more seam sealer and did more floor prep today
removed the headlights and cleaned up the front bulkhead this evening.
removed my green ground wires and the washer fluid reservoir from the engine bay.
