I don't know about advancing the timing 14 degrees, but what you can do is check your timing now which is probably 17 right now. Retard the dist. to about 14 and see what happens.

damn, did he want you to move the timing up another 14 degrees?? or retard the timing to 14 degrees?? but yea, if anything try to go in the middle, 15 degrees. thats stock on the H motor...

yea, make sure you put in a check engine jumper so your ecu wont correct your timing. ***put a paper clip into the check engine plug***

retarded timing today and its till detonated around7k could my car be running to rich? my autometer a/f gauge sits in rich at idle and while driving but once i let off it goes to stoich then to nothing (off the gauge) could my ecu be running to rich that is the reason why it detonates around 7k?

I wouldnt trust the autometer a/f gauge. Those things are just pretty lights.

He ment that he wanted you to set the timing to 14 degrees advance its still advance if your retarding it . You just misunderstood him. Also you detonate because you run too lean or you are too advance or have to low of octane. To fix the problem make sure your running the highest octane gas available at local pumps. 2nd check your timing, what is it at? over 18 is too much and gains are very minimal after 17 so keep it at 16 or lower regardless lower it atleast 2 degrees if you are at 18 go to 16 if your at 16 go to 14 if your at 14 do not lower it anymore if you are at 14 and you are detonating you need to re-program the ecu to deliver MORE FUEL. Also your A/F gauge is much more accurate than people will admit. Usually if its green at Full throttle you are fine orange and green is most desirable all orange or orange and a little red is where the most power is made at the cost of safety and red is bad BUT ONLY AT FULL THROTTLE these values are not accuarate at part throttle.

one thing that i dont recommend but you can try is octane boost it is not a good solution but will keep your motor from EXPLODING.

also make sure you check your timing with the service jumper plugged in... if you are using an adjustable timing light you are shooting for the white line that is all by itself on the pully... if you are not using an adjustable then you are looking at the 3 lines that are together they should be 14 16 and 18 but you may want to check your service manual as i am not 100% it could be 12 14 16 but pretty sure its 14 16 18

anyways hope this helps

Detonation is from running to LEAN, not rich. That "tuned" Hondata your running is NOT tuned to your engine, and thus the detonation problem. Plain and simple. Cut and dry. Get it on a dyno and tune it to YOUR engine. Using someone elses tune is a craps shoot.
