Only the JDM Type R-x got a serial number, 98specs had a plaque that had just ITR 98spec on it and 96spec ITRs didnt have any plaque at all. The number is the production number and i dont think it signifies a year in any way.

Re: serial number on jdm type r's? (Doespike)
im talking about the serial numbers on the block below where it says b18c
i was told theat the 96 spec numbers start like so
2,xxx,xxx
the 98 spec are
3,xxx,xxx
but i was also told but a bot so good source the there was one more in 98 spec that the engine came with more hp (220) and the compression was 11.5:1 instead of the 11.0:1
and these numbers start as so
8,xxx,xxx
can anyone conferm this?

Re: (thegatekeeper14)
the dc5 type r's came with 220hp, no dc2's did, and i belive the only way to tell a gsr aka sir-g short block from a itr are the crank/rods/pistons

There is no such thing,no dc2 came out from the factory w/ a 220 hp. Only the dc5 as stated above
