Default how to identify the different...

how to identify the different between JDM B18C type R and JDM B18C GSR engines other than the red valve cover?

the easiest way to tell the different by looking at the outside of the engine?
without open the head and measure the size of valve and cam?

If it's a swap, you can easily tell by the intake manifold.

hello, i wanna know how to identify the different between the JDM B18C type R and GSR engine..
other than the red valve cover by looking at the outside of the engine?

coz i just did a swap of JDM B18C type R engine on my del sol in a shop
but i have noticed that the power gain isn' t wut i expected that huge...

the engine in my car is red valve cover, but i suspect that they can just switch the red valve cover to the GSR engine...

i borrowed my friend' s type R and drive around, the feeling is different from my car...
in the real type R, the feeling is like it really pull hard and the engine is like ask me to drive faster and faster

but in my car, it isn' t that big power until the vtec come out...
the ECU in my car is P73 OBD1, so it really can' t tell the different by driving since that ECU is still 8900 rpm red line, even on a B16A engine

i am so unhappy about this and wanna make sure if the shop lie to me or not...
coz if i spent that much money but bought a GSR engine, it will be very very GAY

anyone could give me a hint of how to identify the difference will be much appreciate

A type R engine carries the part number P73 on most of it's components. Check the cylinder head stamping for P73 and check any number of other parts as well. Also be sure that you have a P73 ECU.

it could be a
gsr w/ a skunk2 manifold or a
b16 1/2 gen head w/ type r manifold.

or a real deal type r.

oh... the block stamped PR3 besides the date of the engine, so it's not type R?
since someone said it should be P73 stamp some where on the engine?

the motor you have is a JDM ITR. If it has the stamp P30 right above the header you're in the blue. You can be happy and enjoy your swap

I have an SIR-G motor in my teg if you would like me to take pics of it and compare notes and numbers etc...let me know...for one thing, my manifold on my SIR-G is different then yours, mine is the GSR style (the way it should beon a SIR-G) however, your intake manifold looks real clean compared to the rest which kinda makes me thing it could be and SIR-G with a skunk 2 manifold on it...if you would like, i can look for other numbers on my block/head and see what we come up with...

ok if you want go run outside again in the freezing cold. look at the head where it bolts to the dist. by the intake manifold. if it has green paint its an itr head. if not its a b16 head. but remember its only paint so if it looks really clean like they steam cleand it, then the paint will come off. then look under neath the car. go see if the cover between the eng. and the tranny is a black thin ppiece of metal or is it aluminul and looks like the tranny and the eng. is one piece of so its an itr cover anyways. if its a black thin piece of metal its not an itr piece. tranny code does it say J4D? or N3E both would be itr tranny. the head would be stammped pr3-? but look at the cover for the timming belt does it say p73? and if you look at the alt. belt the part number should say p73 on it. only jdm itr got the small pulley so the alt. belt is different. usdm and jdm gsr bot used the same pulley so the belt if oem for ges would say p72.

The paint is not the best indicator. That stuff comes off easily.
