When did George ever have a Supra?
And George, Todd Reid had a problem with the reverse lockout thing as well, and it was ECU related. Shoot him a PM

i got a coupke friends who track their k20 eg's and so far they have yet to crack their oil pans at the track. i do know one person who did have a mishap driving around the streets of San Francisco though.
OK. It looks like there's hope for fifth gear.
The electronic reverse lockout is not working because of an incompatibility between the programme and the particular chip used for the programme.
This means that instead of being able to rely on being able to push over to the right all the way and then up, selecting fifth reliably, the shifter will go beyond the gate every time, making selection difficult.
All we have to do is rig up a manual switch that has reverse locked out all the time, until I need reverse.

Well, it's obviously kind of lacking over here, too.
Otherwise, we wouldn't have the time to go off on these kinds of tangents.

James, the reverse lockout works fine only if you use a 6 speed ECU. If hondata used a 5 speed (EP3 and like) and sent it, well, because its a 5 speed, it doesn't need to lockout reverse because there isn't a 6th gear to accidentally shift into. The "lockout" isn't even in the 5 speed ECUs.
So, basically where the shift linkage rods are at the transmission, there is a solenoid that if turned "on" (feed w/ 12 volts) it keeps someone from shifting into reverse. It needs to be hard wired with a switch. Take one wire from the solenoid and ground it, take the other, attach it to a switch, and get a hot lead from the battery with a fuse. Now the driver just turns the switch on during normal driving, and has to turn it off to go into reverse.
Hope this helps in the future.

Why don't you stick a K-motor in an NSX while you're at it? I'm sure your money goes further for modifications on that car too.
GK, glad to see it was a simple fix. I didn't want to have to pat you on the back after you money-shifted your K-swap, and say, "Don't you miss your B-series?"

This tells you exactly how to do it:
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Honda318dx »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">So, basically where the shift linkage rods are at the transmission, there is a solenoid that if turned "on" (feed w/ 12 volts) it keeps someone from shifting into reverse. If you can't figure this out, I would recommend having a shop do it for you. This is a very simple, and straightforward procedure.
