Trying to seek some information for a friend...

Can anybody shed some light on sizes for the main & rod bearings in reference to the colors or numbers & letters???

MAIN:
Letters are on the block, numbers are on the crank, put the two together to get color code

ROD:
Letters are on the crank, numbers are on the rods, same process as above

However, I guess that part he knew already. His question is this...

For a car with custom rods/crank, how do you determine the actual bearing sizes in reference to color? In building race motors or other custom applications, apparently there are times when these letters and numbers are no longer available for reference!?!?!?

I hope I'm asking this clearly.

you take measurements.

 

Plastigauge. i just went through this. And no....THERE IS NO generic assumptions

 

Yes there are starting places, but they come from experience.

 

you can use any color as a starting point....but that doesn't mean they will work. yellow and pink don't work for every application

 

It will if the journal sizes are the same.

 

how can you say that? Eagle rods with itr crank don't automatically = pink and yellow every time or the rod journals are worn down. crazy

 

If i have 3 ITR cranks and all are labeled X then i will have the same bearing color.
Cranks dont usually wear down unless a bearing is spun. It takes quite a bit
to even begin to wear down a journal.

 

and my crank was labeled x,y,y,x and plastigauging didn't show yellow or pink

 

and what colors did you come up with

That color doesnt exist.
Available colors are: Red,Pink,Yellow, Green, Brown, Black, Blue

steve, lip called me and tried to order 2 camoflage colored bearings, and 2 double dipped chrome bearings. go figure....

What are the sizes for each of the bearing colors you mentioned above? In particular, the yellow, green, brown and black????

You can also use a micrometer and telescoping gauge to measure the journal and rod bore, than choose the correct color bearings.

 

Any info on the exact size of each of the bearings listed above???
