Default vtec controllers?

i was wondering if running a vafc on a stock motor w/ i/h/e would be pointless? would you lose power? or does it acutally make sence to do it. thanks

depends. if its a non-vtec motor then its pointless. if it is a vtec motor then you could put it on and tune the car so that it will get the most out of the mods, but with only I/H/E then you won't see much of a difference in peak power. not really worth it if those are the only mods. it would be good to get if you plan on doing other future mods though.

yeah, what the other guy said. unless you've really changed the characteristics of the engine say with diff cams, or added FI, I doubt its possible to magically find a better VTEC crossover point than the engineers at Honda have already found to make more power.

my friend with a Prelude VTEC picked up about 5 peak hp and 8-10 midrange, all he had was Iceman CAI/Mugen header/Mugen twinloop catback.

i had the same question, but you folks kinda answered it. so how much tunning will cost? i plan to put dc stainless header, aem cam gears, aem cai w/bypass, hks or tanabe racing stainless exhaust, ngk plugs, and aem cam gears. should i get a vtec controller also then? for a 99gsr.

VAFC is a wondeful thing to have with a cammed setup. With solely i/h/e I just couldnt justify the purchase.

An hour on the dyno cost me 100$ - and ben (IN VTEC) and i tuned her myself. Made 16 whp or something like that - 18 lb/ft of torque.

you can use the v-afc or the afc it doesnt matter, the vtec wire would just be ignored and you could remap your air and fuel maps. you dont need internals to get hp gains off of a afc
