A test pipe is just replacing your cat with more exhaust piping. Not much better than having a high flow cat unless you are running serious boost. Illegal because the car won't pass smog - in most states atleast.

Actually, its illegal in all states, its just that some states don't force you to bring in your car and prove you're legal. California seems to follow a "guilty until proven innocent" mentality when it comes to cars.

+1 for SC haha. No immisions checks here. But yea a test pipe is just a piece of straight piping that replaces the cat. A cat. is the single most lame piece of equipment on a car IMO.

a test pipe is just a straight pipe. It's going to make your car obnoxiously loud, and not always in a good way.
Just get a high flow cat... a test pipe can get you in trouble.

i read this went outside to look at the teg i just bought and came to a realization that the guy i bought it from is a jackass. straight pipe from manifold to catback and fart can. thought it sounded like ***.

ive had it 2 days now. going for a highflow cat catback AND OEM MUFFLER this sounds dumb but if you see it in person it looks good "the stock oval tip muffler from a plymoth breeze" lol sounds like a dumb idea but if u see it youll notice it contours to the curve for the exhaust on your bumper almost perfectly ....well it did on my eg dont know about the teg ide have to look.

imma get flamed for that breeze muffler i can feel it

it smells because it's spewing poison into the air. A daily driver should have a cat. A high flow cat offers almost no restriction. Is 3hp really worth poisoning the air you breath?

Is that guy serious? 3hp could mean 197hp or 200hp! And "poison" the air you breathe?!?! Like there arent a million other cat-less cars in each state! One f-in test pipe isnt gunna hurt anybody! I do believe you're on the wrong site. I think you meant to go to homo-tech!

the way I look at it... I drive a Honda. even if I unbolted my entire friggin Exhaust system from the car, and ran right off the header I'd still burn cleaner than my truck (and the millions of other trucks out there) cat or no cat Hondas still burn cleaner than most other cars on the road.

oh yea my truck - 460 big block.

If you have emissions testing in your state, just get a high flow cat. Yes, like what they said above, the test pipe will be loud and not good for the air.

Im from Dallas TX, but the town i go to college in does not check smog at all (college station) inspection here is a joke.

also this has always angered me why is my 1.8L honda put under a microscope in dallas when it gets inspected when a huge 7L diesel engine can blow black smoke and still pass???

Equipment that reduces pollution and makes the world more pleasant to live in while preserving it for generations to come. How lame.

Don't take offense to that. I know that classic cars and diesels pollute more than our little Hondas could if they tried, but I hate that people pull emissions equipment off for a gain of 3-5 hp. At least buy a high flow.
