Ls/vtec
Sup guys, i have a 97 LS Integra with 169,000 miles on it. I didnt want to spend big bucks doing a swap. And i heard there was a cheaper way to go VTEC with the engine i have now. I was wondering how do i go LS/VTEC. Please help a Honda friend out with a lot of responses.
There are plenty of FAQ's on this, use the search function.
But what I can tell you from building my own LS VTEC is that it's more expensive and not as reliable as it's OEM brothers. I would have bought a Type R swap, or a GSR if I could go back.

i have 2600 in an lsv setup and a YS1 freshly built gsr 1-2, b16 3-4 and a gsr 5th and that includes the things to swap it to a 5 spd also. and an ls vtec is only as reliable as who built and if you didnt rush
This is true but at the end of the day, no matter who builds a frankenstein motor, the OEM equivalent will always be more reliable. Factory is KING.

if you dont want to build your motor yes. if you know what you are doing and take your time and do everything exactly as you are supposed to you can build an lsv for cheaper than buying a gsr from hmotors. its all up to you

Read this and see if you can afford to do what is shown. If not, you probably shouldn't attempt it.

The bottom line in reliabilty is that the "unreliable" ones were probably put togeather with little reguard to proper preparation, or user knowledge/experience with engine assembly, or much need tuning afterwards.
IMO, if you go the swap route (which is perfectly fine by the way), you'll probably be dealing with a motor thats got milage on it and no way to know for sure how bad the motor was betten on by the previous owner, unless you know that this GSR/ITR swap is coming from some little old ladys car.....
I'm mean, if I had choosen to do the GSR or ITR swap instead of a frakenstein (myself), I would have pulled the motor apart anyhow to inspect it and probably replace more then a few internals just because I wanted a freshly rebuilt engine (for me).
No matter if I had choosen a GSR, ITR, or LS/VTEC for my engine of choice, I felt a rebuild was needed to insure real reliabilty, some may disagree.
Like Patrick said, read the thread below first, then make a choice. It's not cheap, but then again neither is buying a jdm swap then replacing worn internals either unless you want to take your chances on a used engine which may or may not give you trouble depending on how it was taken care of......
