Default intake question

a friend of mines and i were have a talk about intakes, and he said that his stock intake piping with a aem intake filter is pretty much the same as a sri like aem, injen, etc. he said he felt it pull alittle more on the bottom end and it was just as loud as the other sri. my question is has anybody on here done that and if so how did you like it and is it as loud as a sri?

When you take all the baffling off the bottom, it will be a Little louder,
But unless you take the top cover off the stock box, it still won't be as loud.

The aftermarket SRI is loud because it's Open, And also the power differences ...
Don't go into that, because they will be marginal at best.

ok just to clear a few things up he's has the stock intake piping with a aem filter exposed similar to a sri. now would it feel any different than a aftermarket sri and would it sound any different than a aftermarket sri?

An aem sri would be louder, but no noticeable power difference would be felt.

Is sound really worth 150+ dollars for you? If it is then buy the damn thing. But if you are more performance oriented like most of us, then it doesn't matter, you won't be able to tell the difference. I have the setup with an exposed filter and stock piping, you can hear the sucking noise with the hood popped but not over my exhaust at high rpms.

the stock rubber piping will also not contract as much heat as a metal aftermarket

Is there any difference between the factory rubber intake box and pipe on a GSR or an LS?
