if you want to stay factory pistons 81mm and 81.5mm are your only choices, there is a pretty large aftermarket market for 84mm tho, have to get retuned tho

depends on your budget and goals overall. there are lots of oem pistons you can pick from that will give you a good cr if you'll be staying na. if you'll be boosting i'd get forged pistons for the added strength. also know that if you want a bore of 83mm+ you have to sleeve first. so take that into consideration.

yea and it'll probably last 10 minutes. max bore on stock sleeves is 82mm and even then i would be cautious about pushing it hard.

yep, those two are right. MD on TI says go no bigger than 82 on stock sleeves, no bigger than 87 on aftermarket sleeves

yea im looking to spend around the 3500 area, for now im going to keep it all motor just for the reliabilty and stuff, but eventually i might boost it, who knows. But with a budget of around 3500 what are some of my options.

don't spend alot of cash on stuff for it to be NA if you plan on going boost. NA is not fast unless you drop alot of cash in it and it will be hell for a DD. this means there is no need to upgrade cams or header or intake. stock sleeves are safe up to 300-350hp depending on who you talk to. with that 3500 you can build a nice turbo setup. things you want to look for to make it reliable are forged pistons/rods and upgraded valvetrain.

okay, well yea i just bought a 98 gsr with 160k on it. The engine runs fine, i havent had any problems with it so far. but i dident wanna slap a turbo on a motor with 160k so i wasent sure if i should just stay n/a for reliability, witch i dident want to do, or just go boost. I only wana spend about 3500 though. I could possiby spend more if it is really needed but i wanted to see what some of you guys thought, and what were some setups you would suggest.

you could rebuild the motor to stock specs for fairly cheap if you are only going to add low boost (under 300hp) or you can sleeve it, forged itnernals, P&P head, upgrade valvetrain and cams, but that will get outta your price range
