Default Check engine light after vtec??

Hey guys I was wondering if you could help me....when I'm driving and I go past 5500RPM, theres sort of a tone change in my exhaust then the check engine light comes on? But when I turn my car off and restart it, the check engine light goes away? Why is this, is this something I shouldn't worry about? I've been told its electrical, it could be something with my sensors...
Thank you!

um.. the tone change would be your secondaries (assuming you have vtec).. & check engine light might be a faulty o2 sensor.

Why don't you read the trouble code? It's stored by the ECU, so the light doesn't have to be on for you to read the code. Read the sticky thread about ECU codes...

looking for help and insulting people don't usually go well together. try checking your oil level. if that's good, maybe your o2 sensor. it's really hard to tell without knowing the code.

VTEC solenoid. Check the code, I bet its 21.

Try unplugging the connector and making sure its clean.

Youll notice VTEC engages late if your oil is low. Later, later, later, then not at all. You also will see a decreased revlimit.

Your oil light should come on too if its THAT low. The problem youre describing is common with a vtec solenoid issue however.
