use what you have

or you could buy a b16 for cheap and swap it in. then build the b20 block on the side and go b20vtec later on.

i am very concerned with the b20b idea's....all i hear about are b20's that are blowing up due to poor cylinder wall density....if i go B20VTEC i am going to have to get another motor anyways, so that i have something to drive on. I am willing to do anything except a boosted B20....a boosted b20b sounds like bomb ready to go off in iraq to me....it seems like its a ticking time bomb, all i hear are horror stories.....i think i am leaning towards the B18C1 boosted.. allready has the bottom end that i need, and allready has the vtec...sooo i think it would be a better idea so later on i can boost it.....i dunno how much of a difference there would be from a b18c and a b20vtec, maybe a lil more torque? but a boosted b18c is more reliable then the b20, and i can push more boost.....i still gotta think about my options.....

those stories you hear are from people who had shitty tunes. detonation are sleeve killers in b20's, moreso than in the other b series because of the b20's sleeve design. it's not because they're thing, it's because they're cast as one piece. you can crack their sleeves with an NA build just as easily as if you were to boost it if the tune is shitty.

not really. the b20 has thinner sleeves than the b18 and is therefore more prone to cracking them. i'd recommend turboing a b18b.

bending your valves will not crack your sleeves. boosting it might.

Turbo an B18b1 better than a b20

Sleeve cracking is a known issue.

I'd do a boosted B18C1. If you put a vtec head on that B20 block and boost it, you'd better build the bottom end with some beef. An B20 has a shitty R/S (rod to stroke ratio) of 1.54:1. Mate it to that B16 head and start spinning high rpm, and you're gonna wreak havoc on the stock sleeves, especially in boosted form.

I agree with Exeed, get the GS-R motor and boost it later, you'll be much happier.

Sleeve cracking is a known issue on B20s because cheaping out on parts and a tune is a known issue with the Honda community.
