I am getting about $3,000 coming to my car pretty soon.....
right now i have a b20B (great condition) but i want to go turbo, should i keep the B20B and purchase a turbo? or should i just purchase a B18C1? im going to have to get a new tranni also....its crapp |
Re: B20B turbo / or GSR motor ...purchase Poll (g0tgot)
use what you have
or you could buy a b16 for cheap and swap it in. then build the b20 block on the side and go b20vtec later on. |
Re: B20B turbo / or GSR motor ...purchase Poll (g0tgot)
B18C1
|
Re: B20B turbo / or GSR motor ...purchase Poll (g0tgot)
If your smart with your money you could go b20 vtec
|
Re: B20B turbo / or GSR motor ...purchase Poll (B.J.)

that's a pretty ignorant statement |
Re: (doood)
build a B20-vtec with B16 head and b16 trans

Re: (Sumslapper)
ROFL, you bent all of them? what happend timing belt???
|
i am very concerned with the b20b idea's....all i hear about are b20's that are blowing up due to poor cylinder wall density....if i go B20VTEC i am going to have to get another motor anyways, so that i have something to drive on. I am willing to do anything except a boosted B20....a boosted b20b sounds like bomb ready to go off in iraq to me....it seems like its a ticking time bomb, all i hear are horror stories.....i think i am leaning towards the B18C1 boosted.. allready has the bottom end that i need, and allready has the vtec...sooo i think it would be a better idea so later on i can boost it.....i dunno how much of a difference there would be from a b18c and a b20vtec, maybe a lil more torque? but a boosted b18c is more reliable then the b20, and i can push more boost.....i still gotta think about my options.....

Re: (g0tgot)
Then you pretty much answered your question there bro, go for the B18C,untill you can afford to boost that bastard

those stories you hear are from people who had shitty tunes. detonation are sleeve killers in b20's, moreso than in the other b series because of the b20's sleeve design. it's not because they're thing, it's because they're cast as one piece. you can crack their sleeves with an NA build just as easily as if you were to boost it if the tune is shitty. |

that's a pretty ignorant statement</TD></TR></TABLE> not really. the b20 has thinner sleeves than the b18 and is therefore more prone to cracking them. i'd recommend turboing a b18b. <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Sumslapper »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote"> i agree. i bent all my intake valves with my b20vtec and the block was fine http://images.honda-tech.com/set1//smile/emcrook.gif </TD></TR></TABLE> bending your valves will not crack your sleeves. boosting it might. |
turbo GSR > turbo LS > turbo B20
i've heard too many bad stories about cracked sleeves on the B20 |
Re: B20B turbo / or GSR motor ...purchase Poll (g0tgot)
B20
hp talks, torque walks. |

Turbo an B18b1 better than a b20
Sleeve cracking is a known issue. |
Re: (PLAGUED_DB7)
I'd do a boosted B18C1. If you put a vtec head on that B20 block and boost it, you'd better build the bottom end with some beef. An B20 has a shitty R/S (rod to stroke ratio) of 1.54:1. Mate it to that B16 head and start spinning high rpm, and you're gonna wreak havoc on the stock sleeves, especially in boosted form.
I agree with Exeed, get the GS-R motor and boost it later, you'll be much happier. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif |
Re: (TDogg Teg)
Sleeve cracking is a known issue on B20s because cheaping out on parts and a tune is a known issue with the Honda community.

I'll second that...i love my boosted GSR |
B20 will have more torque in the end.... u can always go VTEC later if u want so its still an option.... use what u got man!
