Default Automatic tranny question

Friend in a 94 ls with an atx has a problem. When ever you drive the car its fine but when its cold usually will happen sometimes when warm if you bring the car to a stop it will come out of gear. Then you rev it once and click its back into gear and you can go drive no problem, until you come to a stop again. Then its like neutral again until you rev it then it goes back into gear. Whats the problem?

auto trannies are a pain, its cheaper to replace it than to rebuild it. u cant tell unless u pull it apart and look inside.

check fluid first.

fluid is the most important part to an auto tranny.

a fluid change may help the situation

this does sound like a linkage issue though. the shift valve is sitting funny, on decell the throttle valve is all the way shut while the governer is cranking pressure on that shift valve. if the shift valve isn't perfectly in place, i could see it slipping in/out of gear.

check the shift linkage and adjust as neccessary.

So "3.504" we noticed the fluid is under the low line so would changing the fluid and filling properly with lucas tranny fluid work or would be a waste of money. Becuase by what your saying if a valve is bad then what would lucas do to help it. But it was a quart or more low so....

i'm not saying the valve is bad... but shifted slightly to one side or the other (possibly from linkage, or dirt, or even a low fluid condition causing pressure variations).

since you did find a low fluid condition, i'd filter change it and fill it with honda ATF. i wouldn't buy that lucas crap. make sure to check the linkage while your down the

if that doesn't help you out, at least your not out much money. if it does help, you didn't have to replace a tranny w/o knowing.
