This is for my friend's 89 Legend. Her car won't shift past second gear. does this mean that her tranny is shot? or can it be a simple fix? she is totally clueless as to what is wrong. she thinks her tranny is shot. i don't know much about it, because i haven't seen it for myself as yet. i want to know what to look for when i go look on it? what could possibly be the problem?

 

check the tranny fluid. that happened to my moms car before and she was extremely low on fluid.

 

Check the hydrolics shifters on the front of the tranny of the tranny (electronics hooked up). A shop will have to do this. This can also happen if the ECU goes in to safe-mode or could be fluid. check both. Also maybe the shift cable has been pulled in a weird way, jamming it. Mind you, This is not good and can easily lead to failure.
