Hey I have a 99 teg GS-R and my antena will not go all the way down. when the radio is turned off it goes about 1/2 way then makes sort of a clicking sound untill i push it down with my hand. Any sugestions?

if that doesn't help...then there is no hope next time, you really should try searching, because that took me all of about 30 seconds. and if someone else got to this thread first, i guarantee you would have been flamed harder about "search before you ask!" just a word of the wise. anyways, welcome to H-T and just make sure you read all the rules.

 

Ok i understand now I think the thing to do is go with the s2k antena...however, is there any advantage to the shark attack 2 version of this antena or is it just put on an angle to make it look cooler?

 

well jugglingtex you have joined a very big club indeed . 2 broken and 1 cleaningfor me on my 94LS. the fix for you is 1 remove ant. from car [the whole thing] 2 disassemble ant. [the whole thing] remembering how to reassemble, when you take off the reel cover [bottem of ant.] you will see what your problem is .dirt lots of dirt,grease with lots of dirt in it [ this is a problem w/honda power antennas] made worse by people who spray them w/WD40 or anything that dirt can stick to and be pulled in when ant.mast gos down. 3 clean all the parts [lots of parts] 4 check all the parts mainly the rack [the plastic thingy w/gearteeth on 1 side at bottem end of mast] check for missing teeth ,if all ok, regrease only where needed and reasseble. if rack damaged relpace mast [comes w/thingy] from honda parts or better yet salvage mast from power ant. that has a motor not working that you got for free from someone [ a new mast from honda/acura parts is $60-$70 can.up here. you can check the rack without removing ant. unscrew top of ant.[this holds mast in ant.and holds ant. to body of car] have someone turn on radio [mast will come up ] grab it and support it till its up all the way ,you dont want it to pop out ,fall over ,scratch paint . you may have to give it a 1 or 2 little pulles to get mast out of ant. ,when mast pops out you will see the plastic thingy, remember witch way teeth face. check rack for damage [missing teeth or part of end of rack missing, tip of rack is tappered to a point]if damaged, but all there, you can replace with new mast [ should not without disassemble and cleaning ] turn radio on wate till ant. motor stops shove rack into ant.as far as it will go,remember witch way teeth faced,have someone turn off radio,[you will be holding mast] the motor will grab the plastic thingy and pull mast into powerant.housing,replase shaft nut befor trying. turn radio on and off a few times to see if all ok. you may still have to disassemble and clean the power ant.housing hope this helps 94 ps the best way to keep dirt out of the ant. is to keep mast clean[no WD40] i use a small clean rag [that i keep in car ] wipe from bottem up , the more you do this the longer the ant. will last. once a day is not too much ,after long drives.

I have the same problem with the 92 ls I just bought. Only i can't figure out how to get at the antena or the motor for it and i haven't been able to get a shop manual yet. help.

 

More info, what is it that you need, and what is or is not happening with ant, 94

 

I can hear the motor running when I turn the car off but the antena doesn't go down. Also i can't push the antena down by hand. I'm fairly certain I can figure out how to fix it I just don't know how to get at it.

Unscrew the the mounting shaft nut,[the crome nut at the base of ant.] then you can pull mast and runner out ,and if all the runner comes out [just stripped] you can replace with new mast and runner [get at Acura parts],if part of runner is still in mast housing, you must remove the whole ant., and disassemble, and remove any runner parts left inside. [this a good time to clean and relube the reel]

to get to ant.housing and motor, [ all one piece] you must remove the inside rear 1/4 panel trim.

ok I got it appart and it appears that the antena was slightly bent (almost inperceptably so) and caused the plastic line with the teeth inside snapped so I need to get a whole new one. best place to buy?

You can get a new mast on eBay.
