When ever i turn my car on and the antenna goes up right before its fully up it makes almost like a grinding noise wtf is it. i recently had my mast replaced so it better not be the mast. i cleaned the antenna also wiping it in upward strokes like it recomends in the manual and even put a little wd40 on it and it still does it if afriad that it will eventually mess something up i hope nothing is caught in the motor. what do you think it is becuase im out of ideas. I recorded the sound its making hopefully this will work

Sounds like your old mast may have damaged the teeth on the gear inside the motor that raises the mast. To get rid of the noise you will probably have to buy a complete motor assembly.....and bend over.....they ain't cheap.

You can try replacing the mast because you can pick one up for 20-25 bucks. Worst comes to worst if the antenna motor is shot then maybe you can consider a S2000 antenna. I've considered replacing my antenna because it doesn't retract down anymore. I'm still debating if I want to replace the mast or just get a S2000 antenna.

had the same problem, put some wd40 on it and it went away

 

i did put wd40 on it an still does it i hope something isnt getting caught in the motor right before the antenna is all the way up

Honestly, this is probably your best option.

You can just look for another antenna that someone removed. I removed mine and sold it. I know there has to be several other people on here who have done the same thing.

has any1 put an s2k antenna where the rear whiper squirter is ? that would b cool

 

my antenna is all jazzed up it only goes down like 2/3 of the way and makes a horrible grinding noise on the way up and down

any suggestions? i cleaned it and lubed it up but that did nothing
im not to fond of the s2k antenna on integras either

Ebay. That's where I got my replacement mast.

 

screw it the antenna as of now is unplugged

 

If you didn't replace the mast because you broke it in half you probably replaced it beecause the plastic mast line broke. When I had to fix my antenna, I had to take the antenna motor apart to take out the bottom piece of feed line that was stuck in there even with the mast out. If this gets left in there it causes exactly your problem. The motor's not hard to take apart, just be careful

 

i jdut unplugged it as a quick temp soultion i dont have time to dismantel that thing right now. but as long as i get pretty good reception im not going to do anything more with it

 

Mine is making the same grinding sound so I say screw it too, tomorrow I'm unplugging the F*%@#ER.

 

need another mast my LS sounded just like that

 

Is it not the gears of the antenna motor stripped or worn that's making that grinding noise and not the mast? Just wondering

 

Anybody else know if it's more likely to be the mast or the gears stripped of the motor
