today i am going to jdm exchange in philadelphia to start up and observe a jdm b16 front clip from an xsi, i am wondering what precautions i should have and/or what i should be looking for to ensure its okay to accept the motor, thanks

 

um.. compression test?

If it doesn't idle horrible, or do anything that sounds like a rod is coming through the block,
I think it would be pretty decent then.

 

Well most basically take the oil cap off and see what color the head is. Dark, bronze gold, still shiny aluminum? That will tell you atleast what kind of shape the engine is in if you can hear it running fine. Also listen for fluttering valves, may need an adjustment.

 

the company says they stand by compression tests, as they test each motor before its available... the motor has 40K on it so it should be okay ? im well aware that this is basically brand new for a honda motor

LOL they all say there is only 40K on the engine. Be the hardest 40K of it's life!
