K powered tarmac rally car

Developed for tarmac rally, this K-powered monster makes 345 horsepower.

Want something that’s truly different from some of the same old builds you typically see? Well, the Darrian T90 GTR+ is just what you need. Built to compete in Tarmac style rally racing, this mid-engined beauty is ready for almost any bumpy terrain you can throw at it.

Lets start with what you need to know. Darrian is a Welsh company that builds cars for both road racing and tarmac rally racing, but its the GTR+ that has our attention. Darrian developed the GTR a number of years ago, as a kit car where they’d build the chassis and you’d pick the drive train. By the way, that extra plus at the end of the name signifies that this is the newest model with enhanced aerodynamics, upgraded suspension, but most importantly, the K motor that’s mounted in the middle.

Described as “ultimate spec,” this Honda K motor pushes out 345 horsepower. The description doesn’t quite say how it gets to that number, but it is described as a “K25,” which suggests it has been bored and sleeved, and likely has a higher compression ratio as well. Since Darrian allows you to pick any motor you’d like, this one was probably selected to fit in a specific racing class. But if you wanted to go wild, they’d be happy to throw in a turbocharged K build like some that we’ve featured before. The only limitation is your imagination and pocket-book. If you wanted to hear what this car sounds like, catch it in action on a rally stage below.

We can say with certainty that this has to be one of the only mid-engine, rear wheel drive hand-built tarmac rally car builds we’ve ever featured. But if we are wrong, we’d like you to prove us right!
