Auction Prices Continue to Go Wild Over the Integra Type R

Type R

Regret selling yours? You can officially buy a well sorted Ferrari Testarossa for less than this Integra Type R.

No amount of planet alignment, zodiac sign foreshadowing, farmers almanac predictions or tarot card reading could really prepare us for this moment. Somehow in 2022, a DC2 Integra Type R is about to sell for over $110,000 dollars. That’s officially more than a really nice Testarossa. While we ride this wave, we have to pause in amazement and consider why such a thing is happening. Especially now.

Found on Bring a Trailer with just 7 thousand miles, it certainly is one of the lowest mile and cleanest Phoenix Yellow DC2 out there. With no surprise for the asking price, the car is spotless. It shows like a brand new car. But there’s nothing new to say about an Integra Type R that we don’t already know. Short of the car itself, we’re interested in one other thing. Who’s going to buy it?

ITR

This car appeals to a certain demographic of folks; late Gen X and early millennials. Given the age range, it would be fair to assume it was a dream car growing up for the future owner. But why an Integra? Modern supercars don’t have the nostalgia, and are too polished. Older exotica has skyrocketed out of reach. Now in a position to buy the car they always wanted, they can play “life is short” and bid their hearts away. At the same time, it could be looked at as a fun investment given the volatility of, well, everything else.

What does it all mean? Well, the enthusiast who bought the low mile Integra Type R not too long stirred up headlines on a record setting price. Now it looks like they got away with a steal. And if you were someone who had an ITR years ago and sold it, you’re probably kicking yourself now. We’ll pour one out for you.

Overall though it looks like Honda collectors finally have a solid stay in a market previously reserved for exotica. As for your average enthusiast, there’s enough examples of home-brewed Type R recreations. We can rag on those for pennies and still get all the thrills.
