FK8 Honda Civic Type R goes out with a bang setting a new track record for a front-wheel-drive production car at the Bend Motorsport Park.

The FK8 Honda Civic Type R is doing justice to its aggressive styling and continuing its assault on race tracks. As we impatiently await the arrival of the 2023 Civic Type R, the previous generation FK8 CTR is going around the world and setting new track records. We are eager to find out if the 2023 Civic Type R, with its more restrained design, will outperform its predecessor.

In addition to road testing, the next-gen Civic Type R, Honda recently flew down some CTRs to Australia and broke the record for the fastest time for a front-wheel-drive production car at the Bend Motorsport Park. Australian professional racing driver Tony D’Alberto was driving the CTR. D’Alberto has extensive Racing experience in the Australian endurance championship and Australian GT championship.

Honda chronicled the attempt on video, which is available on the official Honda Australia YouTube channel. The video kicks off with D’Alberto getting behind the wheel of a standard Civic Type R. The Australian racing driver managed to set a lap time of 2 minutes and 13.251 seconds in the hot hatch around the 3.076 mile Bend International Circuit.

Type R Limited Edition–2:12.260!

For the second run, D’Alberto jumped in a Type R Limited Edition. This version of CTR is 50 lbs lighter than the standard CTR. Honda built the Type R Limited Edition with less sound deadening. The car rides on a set of BBS forged aluminum wheels and race-calibrated suspension and steering systems. The rims are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.

As a result, the lightweight the super hatch was able to lap the track much faster than the standard Type R with the help of the sticker tires. For the uninitiated, we find a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine under the hood of the Civic Type R Limited Edition. The powerplant produces 320 HP of maximum power and 295 lb-ft of peak torque. This allows the CTR Limited Edition to hit the 60 MPH mark from a complete standstill in just 4.8 seconds.
